To start, Burford House was not expensive and to an extent you get what you pay for. However, the whirlpool bath, the biggest selling point of the description was not working. This left us with two baths/showers for eleven people, not convenient at all. We contacted Laura the housekeeper to be told they were waiting for the plumber to get back to them....so they knew it wasn't working and hadn't had the decency to tell us. Following up two days later we were told an engineer would come to repair it, only to be told it was unrepairable. Our suspicion is that it hadn't been working for some considerable time. The engineer left the bottom off the bath, screwdrivers lying around and a broken lock from a cupboard he'd had to break into! The house was not very clean and in these covid times when premises are supposed to be deep cleaned and sanitised, that was concerning. The garden was in a terrible state, weeds everywhere, untidy, the grass needed cutting and there were even bags of rubbish piled in a corner. The extension which housed two of the bathrooms had very large, deep, internal cracks around it, quite worrying. Some of the toilets did not flush properly, the downstairs wet room didn't have a mirror and the window was locked, no key. The one saving grace was the kitchen which appears to have been renovated fairly recently, very well equipped and yet there were only two wine glasses! Also the house is in a very good position walking distance from almost everywhere in Ryde. This house with some TLC could be lovely but I certainly wouldn't recommend it in it's current state.
