Self-Catering Reviews

The Bonny Barn was small and quirky but we had everything we needed and nooks and crannies to store our cases and a utility room as well.. The mezzanine was lovely overlooking the room downstairs. the owner was kind and helpful and left us cake and goodies to eat and invited us in to tea when we arrived. There was a summerhouse we could use at the top of the garden with lovely views over the countryside. A good view over the garden. Plenty of places to visit along the coast and the village was along practically empty country roads until we got near the coast which was a pleasure to drive on. .

Ann, the host is very accommodating.. Lovely welcome baskets in the cottage and a real homely feel to it. Added bonus of the sun room for relaxing after a day exploring.

Comfortable and clean, Ann is very welcoming and helpful.. The village is quiet, restful, and the surrounding countryside lovely. We really enjoyed the walk (climb!) to the Drake Stone. We missed a freezer box in the fridge. The sleeping area could have been darker if there had been a blind on the second roof window, and on the door to the garden.

A good location and cottage for a quiet time.. Included walking in village of Harbottle as well. The castle and Drakes Stone are must dos and there is a pub that doubles up as tourist centre, paper and coffee shop.. Easily placed for Hadrian's Wall, Keilder Water (National Park in general), Alnwick, Northumberland Coast, Lindisfarne, and Berwick upon Tweed. If a day is required in Scotland again easily positioned for this. The accommodation is excellent and enough space to prepare basic meals. The week we had was very warm with no rain at all. The landlady who lives in the main cottage was on had if need be and will supply you with some fruit/veg depending on what time of year you are staying. Very helpful all round.

Ann the owner and host for the week was extremely helpful and friendly, she had prepared veg from her garden and baked cake and scones as well as a welcome bottle of wine, her and her dog Mitzi helped make our first visit to Northumberland memorable indeed..

Ann, the owner-host exceeded all expectations and was a perfect host.. She made us feel very welcome; greeting us with a cup of tea on arrival, giving us home-cooked apple-pie and scones, home-made chutney, home-grown vegetables and giving us useful ideas for our stay. All in all, a perfect break in a wonderful, beautiful part of the country with the best host.

An absolutely brilliant cottage with everything you need and more.. The owner Ann is an amazing lady who made us (2 adults, 1 Child and 2 Dogs) feel more than welcome the minute we got out of the car. Nothing was too much trouble and wonderful deliveries of veg and fruit from the garden. The location is brilliant for trips around Northumberland and the wonderful walks it has to offer. The people of Harbottle are lovely and friendly and we will definitely be returning.
