Altho' some reviewers found the place clean and tidy , as a couple who stay in several cottages each year, we found it quite 'unloved' and, quoting from another recent reviewer on Sykes Cottages : ""Whilst the property was comfortable it would benefit from a thorough spring clean, tidying up the flaky paintwork around the bathroom window, new place mats, coasters, chopping board, kitchen bin and dining chair seat covers."
We would add to this list: replacing the rusty sink plugs in bath & bathroom sink, disposing of the carpet and scruffy runner in the kitchen, replacing the old lumpy cushions in the lounge and some dirty lampshades around the cottage. The sofa and armchair have seen 'better days' in our view...time to replace.
Sadly the weather was poor during our week and I got a virus so stayed indoors for 2 days. The tiny bulb in the electric 'log effect ' electric fire did nothing to cheer me up when I was housebound! Bigger red bulb please! Netflix failed and I recommend a proper router be installed for BB..not just a booster from main house.
In short, a nice little cottage in a lovely village but a better 'cleaning regime' and a new 'repairs and replacements regime' would show the owners had some pride in their offering. I have sent photo's to Sykes to apprise them of the shortcomings we found.
