This beautiful detached riverside cottage in the Lake District National Park is only 1 mile from the lake in the unspoilt Ennerdale Valley, with all the ingredients for a memorable holiday. Situated on a smallholding with ducks and chickens roaming freely in the grounds, you can really feel like you have escaped to paradise at this Lakeland hideaway. The sight of red squirrels feeding in the garden is a common one from the heart of this peaceful cottage. You can sit in the conservatory and watch them take monkey nuts from the squirrel feeders right outside your window. At night time the stars shine brightly on the backdrop of the dark skies thanks to there being no light pollution that you typically get in more commercialised areas.
If you want to escape to the country, this really has it all, from the peaceful trickling beck that runs along the side of the garden, to the acres of woodland and riverside walks that you can explore to your hearts content. In effect you have your own private estate on which to build your own adventure. Locally you’ll find all manner of wildlife including a good variety of birds and wild rabbits, there is birdwatching on site and ospreys and an RSPB reserve are within 12 miles. Step inside and this tastefully furnished cottage is perfect for families and couples. Sleeping up to six guests in two triple rooms it offers the flexibility to welcome larger families. The comfortable living room with large multi-fuel burner is just perfect for those cosy nights in front of a roaring fire. The owners, who live in the farmhouse next door, are very welcoming and love to involve visitors in their rural lifestyle, while the biomass heating system and solar panels all complement the eco-friendly nature of this property.
If you love the outdoors, you can enjoy any number of excellent walks and cycle routes directly from the cottage including a stunning route around Ennerdale Water which is famed for its wild and natural landscape. Just a few miles away you can access Buttermere Valley, home to Loweswater, Crummock Water and Buttermere itself which is famous for some of the most iconic imagery of the Lakes. For more challenging adventures you have any number of iconic fells in the vicinity including Red Pike, High Stile and Haystacks.
