Bear's Cottage description

Area
Yetminister village was built almost entirely of honey coloured limestone. This comes partly from the age of its houses - many of which date back to the 17th century - but also from its lack of major through traffic.

We had friends arriving from the USA for a party and booked them in to Bear Cottage. It was very comfortable, clean and welcoming and was a perfect place for them to be based to visit other places in the area.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Bear's Cottage.. Cal and Gill are lovely hosts - very friendly and happy to advise on walks and places to go. It was lovely to be able to go on a walk directly from the cottage (Chenotle Inn a good destination!). The cottage is very comfortable and the living space perfect for being together as a family. It's a great location and just a short drive to the coast.

A delightful cottage in a pleasant village with pretty much everything needed for a comfortable stay.. It was spotlessly clean, had comfortable beds, a well equipped kitchen, and a log fire which would surely make it cosy in the colder months. We appreciated the provision of some initial basics (milk & teabags) and a delicious home made cake on arrival. The friendly owners were very helpful, ensuring that we had an enjoyable stay. We would definitely plan to go back and would recommend it to friends. It is worth noting that, at present, access to the property is via a track that is rather uneven and would be challenging for a vehicle with low ground clearance.

Bear's cottage was brilliant.. A beautiful location and just a short drive to the coast and other attractions. The owners made us feel really welcome, providing additional toys when they met our son and offering us fantastic home grown fruit and veg. The cottage is gorgeous, homely and comfortable with everything you need. The courtyard garden is safe and secure which allowed our little dog to run about outside without us having to worry. We had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend this cottage.

We were made most welcome by our hosts to this charming cottage.. It was comfortable and well appointed with its minimalist and unfussy appeal. Cal and Gill pointed us in the direction of local attractions and eateries; and reserved a special welcome for our little West Highland terrier. Yetminster itself has so much to admire. Many of the buildings still standing in the village were built from the local limestone between the end of the 16th and the middle of the 18th centuries. If you love the Cotswolds, you'll love Yetminster.

I highly recommend Bears Cottage.. It’s located in a nice quiet village in a beautiful part of Dorset. The accommodation was beautiful. It was light and airy and the cake and flowers that greet you upon arrival were a lovely touch. The owners are incredibly friendly and helpful and I’m sure we’ll be coming back very soon.

Lovely property in a quiet location within walking distance of a shop and friendly local pub and really nice cafe/deli.. There is a small, well designed and decked wall-garden with a dog-washing station. We were given a very warm welcome together with a delicious Dorset cake on arrival. Things to be aware of:- there is a short, rough, track leading up to the property, any car with low clearance will catch the underside quite badly. There is no freezer and storage space for food is limited so it is advisable to take a cool box.

A really pleasant and relaxing stay with very welcoming & helpful owners on hand without being intrusive, We really appreciated the Dorset apple cake dorset, tea and milk etc.. when we arrived and the unexpected trug of homegrown vegetables. Any wet days were occupied visiting nearby Sherbourne, the Tolpuddle Martyrs museum and the Burrow Hill Cider Farm (just over the border in Somerset). All in all a great holiday.

Bear Cottage is lovely airy barn conversion discreetly tucked away in the middle of Yetminster.. The gracious owners made us feel very welcome and we were extremely comfortable. Yetminster is an easily accessed centre for exploration of north and west Dorset and has a well stocked local shop, charming little cafe and a pleasant pub which has barely changed in the nearly forty years since I used to go there in my youth.

Bear’s Cottage was a wonderful find.. Set in a delightful village, we were able to explore the delights of Dorset as well as enjoy the friendly welcome by the owners. A peaceful location where you can relax and recharge the batteries - we’ll be coming back.

A perfect haven in this lovely part of Dorset.. This converted barn has been beautifully done with some nice touches amongst it's obvious attributes - light and airy living room to eaves height, well equipped and thought out kitchen, two ground floor bedrooms with oh so comfortable beds and crisp cotton sheets, a shower room with a great shower and a luxurious large first floor double with integral bathroom. Outside there is a very private raised sun trap decking area with comfortable seating and open air dining for six. The garden is thoughtfully laid out with interesting planting and our dog (if we had one with us) would have spent hours in his personal dog wash ! Very attentive hosts (and sun, sun sun) made this a peaceful relaxed holiday. The village is full of Dorset stone and rewards a stroll, the pub is cheerful, traditional and friendly, there is an excellent village store so no need to food shop in Sherbourne (unless you just have to go to Waitrose) and gourmet pubs are to be found within 20 minutes drive - our favourite was the New Inn at Cerne Abbas. And the village church clock enchanted with its chimes - I have tried to research another similar carillon, but failed (so far !). We shall be going back again to Bears again as soon as opportunity permits.

A lovely light and airy cottage.. Pretty village, quiet rural setting, well stocked SPAR, and good friendly pub both within very easy walking distance. Nearby Sherborne well worth a visit, excellent architecture in and around the Abbey and the town. Sherborne Castle a must, delightful gardens. Within an hour of the coast, lots of choice of days out on the Jurassic Coast. Thank you to Cal and Gill the owners who were very welcoming and approachable. Excellent advice on pubs and eateries :) particularly the Rose and Crowne in Trent. Very good.

Lovely comfortable cottage, very spacious.. The only drawback that we could find is that it didn’t have a freezer of any kind not even in the fridge. We bring food that is frozen because we don’t always want to go out in the evening, but apart from that it was excellent. Good pubs nearby.

New Year holidays, we decided on a delayed family Christmas and could not have chosen a better location.. Set in a quiet nook in the heart of Yetminster and adjacent to the owners' own home, Bear’s Cottage, which offers guest parking for two cars, is beautifully appointed and ideally positioned for exploring the Dorset and Somerset countryside. Spacious and well-equipped, the apartment was light and airy, while the log-burning stove (bags of logs on an honesty box basis) created a lovely homely feel, as well as generating lots of heat during the cold January nights. The owners were on hand to welcome us when we arrived and to offer advice on local amenities, places of interest and walks for our Golden Retrievers, Sherlock and Mycroft, who thoroughly enjoyed the warm ‘doggy wash’ when returning from their perambulations. The village has a very good little store, a charming art gallery cum café and a friendly pub, the last offering a wide choice of locally-sourced food, beer and cider. All in all, our family thoroughly enjoyed Bear’s Cottage and will certainly return if the opportunity presents itself.

WE WERE MET BY THE OWNERS WHO WHERE MOST HELPFUL.. THE COTTAGE WAS IMMACULATE, BRAND NEW AND SHINY. EVERYTHING WORKED AND WE WERE MOST COMFORTABLE. WE WERE GRATEFUL FOR THE ESSENTIALS AND THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THE FRUIT CAKE. THE DOG WASHING STATION WAS A GREAT ADDITION. THE VILLAGE WAS GORGEOUS WITH PLENTY OF AMENITIES - WE ESPECIALLY ENJOYED THE HOME MADE PORK PIE IN THE FARM SHOP. WE HAD A COUPLE OF MEALS OUT ONE AT THE LOCAL HOSTELRY, WHICH WAS VERY GOOD AND ANOTHER IN A VILLAGE CALLED TRENT WHICH THE OWNERS RECOMMENDED AND THAT WAS EXCELLENT. REALLY THERE IS NOTHING DETRIMENTAL I CAN SAY ABOUT THE PROPERTY - IT WAS PERFECT !!!!

We loved our stay in Bears cottage.. Cal & Gill were both very welcoming. They were available to answer any questions we had (& even for some gardening advice as lots of lovely plants in their garden!) but equally we had complete privacy. The cottage was spotless and one of the best equipped kitchens we've experienced in our many travels. Fast wifi, cosy fire and great central heating meant we could amuse ourselves indoors on a grey day. On a good day, the surrounding countryside is beautiful and lots of walking opportunities nearby. A vilage shop, a cosy cafe (which also sells arts & crafts) & a lovely village pub make this an ideal location. We'll be back!

Bears Cottage is a beautiful property which has been refurbished to a high standard throughout.. Garden area private & consists of primarily decking plus area for BBQ. Was plenty for 2 dogs. Really appreciated the doggy wash . The welcome is extra special and included Dorset cake, flowers in all the rooms and a fabulous range of fresh veg from the owners garden. Owners are lovely and helpful. We will be back. Thank you!

This was a quality high spec property with great hosts who made us and the dogs feel very much at home without intruding into our plans to explore this beautiful part of the country.. It's the first property we've been to with a "dog wash" to get those muddy tired paws clean. The week flew by and now we need to plan our return

Fantastic, comfortable, cottage, in great location; many Dorset attractions within easy reach.. Gill and Cal made us all very welcome (including our labrador), our 3 year old grand-daughter loved all the new toys to play with. We hope the locals will forgive us for winning the pub quiz! Highly recommended.

We loved our week at Bears Cottage, it is beautifully decorated and has everything you could possibly need.. The outside space is perfect for enjoying a quiet cup of coffee in the morning... or a few glasses of wine in the evening! Our dog loved the dog wash - with heated water. The village of Yetminster is charming, with many gorgeous old buildings, plenty of amenities and lots of good dog walks nearby. We found it a great location from which to explore Dorset. Thank you to Gill and Cal for making us feel so welcome, I am certain we will return in the future.

We have just spent a week here with family and our two dogs, Cal and Gill made us very welcome and were always on hand if we needed anything. Their cottage is stunning and was in the perfect location for us, it is very peaceful there and just a few minutes walk to the village pub (which was great) and local Spar which stocks a lot of essentials. Sherbourne and Yeovil were about 10 minutes away in the car. Couldn't recommend it enough.

We had a wonderful stay in this delightful cottage.. It is well equipped, to a very high spec. The living space was perfect for our family and the beds very comfortable and bathrooms excellent. The outside space is also lovely, very private and the location in the heart of Yetminister perfect. The village itself had a pub serving a great selection of ales and ciders and a lovely cafe where we enjoyed great coffee and cakes. there are lovely local walks and it is also very accessible for the coast, which we enjoyed thanks to some great weather. But the best part of our stay was the exceptional hospitality and friendship extended to us by our hosts. They really did go above and beyond our expectations. They left vases of fresh flowers from their garden along with a delicious home made cake and even brought along some lovely vegetables from their garden. It is a very special place and one I would be very happy to return to and can recommend without hesitation.

Bear's Cottage is a home-from-home in beautiful countryside.. The owners were lovely and welcomed us with Dorset Apple Cake, vegetables from the garden and dog biscuits for Jasper, our Labrador. The cottage is equipped to a very high standard and spotlessly clean. There is a private secluded courtyard garden and we were lucky with the weather. We enjoyed a relaxing, peaceful break away and would highly recommend this as a place to stay.
