There are two comfortable bedrooms here, one double and one family room with bunks and a single bed. The accommodation is set over the ground floor, meaning young and old alike can relax in front of the open fire or enjoythe lovely views over the Churnet Valley. One dog is welcome, and the owner even offers a dog-sitting service, allowing your four legged friend to enjoy long walks with you and then be fussed over while you indulge in a fine meal or quiet afternoon. The attractive garden is a nice spot for relaxing, and the area is well placed for Staffordshire, the Peaks and more.

Area
Moneystone lies just south of the Peak District National Park, and the hamlet is surrounded by walking trails along country lanes, through valleys and over hills. Overlooking the Churnet Valley, this is a lovely spot for getting out and about, and cyclists have a choice of two former railway routes which now offer picturesque rides through lovely countryside. Amenities can be found in the nearby market towns of Ashbourne and Leek, while those who fancy a wilder day out will enjoy Alton Towers theme park, just a few miles away.

The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

Exactly what we needed; great location with plenty of great walks nearby.. Friendly owners, pet friendly and a really nice cottage for relaxing away from the stresses of daily life!

The cottage was spotless and we had everything we needed.. It was located in a peaceful setting and we spent four nights there. It was a perfect relaxing break. We took our 11 year old dog with us who enjoyed his walks in the local woods.

Wow!! What a beautiful holiday home . Was lovely and clean and everything we needed. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at barks. We was using this as somewhere to stay to visit family and local area. I was very impressed, it was clean warm and welcoming. I'm actually quite sad to have left. We had some teething problems but the owners who live next door were very approachable and fixed them within a few minutes. They gave use a list of things to do when we left due to covid which I was happy to do and hope I got right lol I will be 100% looking to book again because I really did enjoy staying here.

We stayed at the cottage at the beginning of September and it is situated in a fantastic location, which is very peaceful and serene. The cottage is fantastic to use as a base to travel around to all the surrounding villages, peak district and Alton Towers which is right on your doorstep. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We were using the cottage as a base to visit all the other villages in the area which was easy to achieve because of its location.. We found Barks cottage very peaceful, quite and for those who want excitement or to explore it is also near Alton towers and the Peak district.

We are a family with a small dog and teenagers and we discovered that Barks offered us everything and more. With Alton Towers a short 10 minute journey away, we were able to drop the teens off at the very convenient Alton Towers drop off point (under 5 min walk to main entrance) and head off ourselves to explore the surrounding area - Dovedale Stepping Stones, the beautiful Trentham Gardens and the Ramblers Retreat in Dimmingsdale for a delicious lunch. We also took advantage of the dog walking service one day and joined our girls at Alton Towers which we thoroughly enjoyed. We booked directly with Catherine and James via their website and found them very easy to deal with and so accommodating. The bottle of Prosecco in the fridge when we arrived was a lovely touch and very well received. The cottage is surrounded by a lovely garden, perfect for sitting outside with a glass of wine after a busy day exploring. We found the cottage to be very clean and it had everything we needed. We will definitely return. It is perfectly situated for Alton Towers, exploring the beauty of the surrounding areas or if you're just looking for somewhere to chill, relax and recharge in the peaceful hamlet of Moneystone.

Barks Cottage provided very comfortable, well equipped accommodation for us, an 'older' couple with a fairly lively dog.. It's in an attractive area in which even in winter we found plenty to do and see, despite not being attracted to the nearby Alton Towers. It was nice to be able to go on a decent walk straight from the cottage. Finding Barks for the first time was slightly tricky for non-GPS users.

Lovely cottage very well equipped and clean, James and Catherine the owners are lovely and really helpful. We stayed for 4 nights and being dog friendly was a real bonus, we also made use of the dog sitting service provided by the owners, which allowed us to visit Alton towers!. The cottage has lovely walks right on the doorstep with gorgeous tea rooms serving coffee and cakes. Thank you James and Catherine for a lovely stay and we will definitely be coming back in the future

Visiting family in the area I was disappointed to discover how little dog friendly accommodation there is in the area of Alton Towers. In fact a recommendation from another B&B owner pointed me towards Barks and we were very happy with what we found. A great location with stunning scenery all around, perfect for relaxing, we fully intend to go back later this year.

We stayed at Barks Cottage for a short New Years break for 4 nights at the end of December. We left it late to book anywhere but luckily they had the dates available. We were attracted by the fact its pet friendly and the location just on the edge of the Peak District. It's a new area for us, but we really enjoyed it. The cottage is lovely, tucked down a track in the quiet Hamlet of Moneystone, yet not far from Oakamoor, Cheadle and Alton. There were 2 adults and 1 Border Collie. The cottage is 2 bedroomed and has a large kitchen, large dining/lounge and a good bathroom with a large shower. The real fire was lovely and a bonus. The supply of logs was very generous. Most cottages give you the 1st basket free, but that usually consists of 6 logs!! We probably only used half the logs provided and had a fire every night. The kitchen is really well equipped with a good dishwasher, full sized oven and a fridge freezer. The lounge had a brilliant 32 inch TV which also makes a change! It was also nice to have a decent supply of essentials like condiments, cleaning materials etc. We are walkers and this cottage didn't let us down in that sense! There are loads of walks from the door (the track is actually a public footpath) and the walks in the area are lovely. We walked approx 10 miles each day, didn't touch the car and hardly met anyone which is nice when you have a slightly grumpy dog! James and Catherine were lovely people. The booking process was simple and they live next door if you have any problems. They also keep hens and ducks if you want eggs, you can purchase some. A nice touch was a bottle of Champagne waiting for us to celebrate the New Year. There are nearby supermarkets and shops in Cheadle which is only a 10 min drive away if you need it. They also offer pet sitting services, though we didn't use them. All in all a lovely break in a really nice cottage. Thank you!

Loved the cottage, appreciated the wildlife, especially the owl. Fantastic location. 8 year old son & 14y.o daughter loved the holiday too. There are no fences, which if the description is read properly mentions this along with "free roaming fowl and livestock" if you have well trained & well behaved dogs/kids this should not be a problem. I arrived to the property & left the property in a clean state. If the previous guest had a problem then I am sure the owners would have done something about it. I found the owners very welcoming & pleasant. would love to come back oneday. Love the ability to see all the stars at night. Dogs loved it too.

The cottage felt particularly safe and comfortable.. The neighbours and owners were extremely helpful. The proximity to Alton Towers was fantastic and such an easy journey, yet felt like we were still having our countryside holiday. The woodland walks were fantastic and to do them from the door was amazing.

We especially loved the coal fire. The accommodation was of a high standard and was warm cosy. The kitchen was very well kitted out a lot of the things were in there; cleaning products, foil etc. We will go back as it's close to relatives has a great setting, down a track off a quiet single track road. The view is amazing too.

Spent several days here with my brother and sister-in-law over the New Year period and we all thought the cottage was lovely! Gorgeous walks in all directions, all the usual amenities and that log fire to give it a relaxing atmosphere. Would love to come back in the summer. Owners were very helpful and welcoming. Our kids had a lovely time.

The location of the cottage and the immediate environment for peace and quiet. It was very comfortable and cosy. There were lots of areas for long or short safe woodland and hillside/valley walks. Very beautiful 'old' English countryside. Very friendly and approachable owners nearby who helped us plan our walks and pointed out places of interest with great knowledge of their locality. A very nice outside area to sit out on the sunnier mornings and evenings.
