Self-Catering Reviews

Mr Garnett
September 2020
Lovely cottage with a cosy lounge area, modern kitchen and an amazing view over Lough Corrib.. Great location for exploring South Mayo and Connemara, with a scenic walk along the Seanbóthar right from the doorstep. Friendly owners gave good instructions for accessing the cottage, and also left plenty of wood and turf for a week's worth of cosy evening fires. The cottage was clean and tidy when we arrived. Because of the times we are in, we brought our own pillows and linen to be on the safe side (for both us, and whoever was in the cottage after us). Only possible downside was the lack of Wi-fi, and patchy phone signal, but sometimes you just need to switch off anyway so it's perhaps no bad thing!

Excellent location for day trips around Connemara.. A cottage with a warm feel and good vibes, great views and all the necessary amenities and conditions. We are planning to return.

Lovely cottage in fab location.. Amazing views, very relaxing. Comfortable accommodation - house well equipped with books, games and jigsaws. Some of local attractions closed due to Covid but under usual circumstances lots to do in area. Managed plenty of woodland walks and visited Galway city and Comnemara National Park where we climbed Diamond Hill! Two villages within easy 10 min drive with pubs, restaurants and shops.

This is a wonderful cottage to stay in, very comfortable, bright, warm, welcoming and thoughtfully set out.. The setting is fabulous, with uninterrupted and beautiful views across the lake. Everything you need is catered for. We will definitely stay again and I have no hesitation in recommending this cottage as a wonderful place to stay.

The views from the sunroom are exceptional! Lovely, well appointed cottage, surprisingly spacious with everything we needed for a relaxing week in this beautiful part of Connemara, including books and games and lots of information on local activities and attractions. Great walks in the area and fishing of course. We really enjoyed Joyce Country sheepdog demonstration. Thank you John (owner) and Brendan and Booby for making sure we had everything we needed.

Loved this cottage and the area.. It was very comfortable. We used the table tennis equipment most days, went for walks around the area, Conga is interesting, Corrib loch is magical and we had a view of it everyday. There is no internet, which is the only downside.

Backs of dinning chairs very dusty, also bedside lamp bases, which spoilt the general cleanliness..

The cottage exceeded our expectations- it was really comfortable and cosy, the view from the conservatory was stunning.. There was always something to look at and we had an amazing time. One comment although it wasn't a problem- there is no wifi and any mobile phone or 3G recpetion was limited.

This review is all geared around Sykes Cottages.. It wasn't Sykes that we were particularly pleased with but the cottage itself and the owners . I would really recommend this cottage. It was absolutely lovely. The view was amazing and although we never met Brenda, she was really helpful and pleasant by phone and text. It exceeded our expectations by a mile, extremely well equipped, warm and well organised with instructions for everything clearly available. It really felt like home. Even on rainy days, we found the view incredible and enjoyed just sitting there relaxing. The cottage is also well placed to get around to the local area with ease. The only thing we had a problem with is that there is no form of Wi-Fi and phone signal was intermittent. Some people might find this a good thing (really getting away from it all) but we found that, although the cottage has loads of leaflets about the local area, nowadays so much up to date information is found on the internet that the lack of Wi-Fi did create a bit of a problem from time to time. But it did not spoil our holiday.

The cottage is in a truly breathtaking setting - the views across the lake are stunning.. The cottage itself is a real home-from-home. It has been beautifully restored and sensitively extended. We had all four seasons in a week whilst we were there - everything from glorious sunshine to torrential rain and even snow. The cottage was a joy to go back to each evening, it’s so warm and cosy (especially when the fire is lit). I was expecting the cottage to be quite teeny but it isn’t at all, it’s really quite roomy! We had a fabulous week exploring this part of Ireland but there’s loads left for us to see. We will happily return to this lovely cottage and we hope that will be really soon.

Very nice cottage with great views; we felt at home right away.. Very welcoming too: there was wine, cookies, chocolates, and even a christmas tree waiting for us. Would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone anyone wanting to visit this area. Can comfortably accommodate 4 people.

This was easily one of the best properties that I have rented in Ireland over the past 24 years, ranging from 2 berth to 22 berth.. Superb!

Excellent cottage! Great location for touring Connemara. Everything was exceptionally clean and very well-maintained. We could not have been more satisfied. Thanks.
August 2017
We just returned from our trip, and highly recommend Ard Na Coiribe . The location is great for touring Connemara, visiting Cong and Ashford Castle, or just sitting in the sunroom looking out over Loch Corrib across fields hosting cattle and sheep to keep you entertained. the owner was very helpful. The cottage was exceptionally clean, and was very well furnished. Loved the kitchen, and the tile master bath was beautiful. Close to Clonbur and John J Burke's, a delightful pub/museum that serves top quality meals at a great price. the hardest part of our day was forcing ourselves to leave our chairs at the large window overlooking the lake to get out and explore. But we loved returning in the evening to watch the sun play on the lake as it waned .

A absolutely beautiful cottage with a fabulous view.. It was everything and more what we expected. We were in a ideal location for visiting Cong and the surrounding sights. Absolutely nothing negative to say about our rental.

Fabulous cottage with a spectacular view, we really enjoyed our stay
March 2017
What an absolutely delightful cottage. It has everything you need for your stay & everything was spotlessly clean. But the icing on the cake was the views of the lake, they were absolutely stunning. After a full day of sightseeing it was a pleasure to come back to the cottage & relax in front of the log burning fire. We really hope to go back sometime & can't praise it enough.
