Area
The small market town of Craven Arms, known as The Gateway to the Marches is conveniently located between the beautiful medieval town of Ludlow and delightful Church Stretton. Craven Arms is an ideal base, which nestles close to the scenic Wenlock Edge and Corvedale Valley with fine walks from the town to lovely Stokesay Castle, one of England's finest fortified manors, or the very popular Shropshire Hill Discovery Centre. The town also has some charming and historic houses, including a round house, thought to be a recognisable rest house for pilgrims travelling between Wigmore and Shrewsbury Abbeys and the fascinating 'Museum of Lost Content'. Just two miles away in the village of Wistanstow is the Plough Inn, a good local wood brewery. ChurchStretton is close by and nestles between the Long Mynd and Caradoc Hills, renowned for their scenic walks and excellent golf course. The historic towns of Bishops Castle, Ludlow and Shrewsbury are a short drive away, and offer magnificent castles, riverside walks, wonderful shops, pubs, restaurants, exciting theatres and a variety of festivals. This is a perfect base for touring all of beautiful Shropshire at any time of the year.

A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

The shower has a quirk in that the flow is very limited unless the showerhead is lowered to the base of the shower and then it works.. Something to do with a header tank I understand

The actual cottage is lovely but unfortunately due to my experience of having stayed the same time another couple in the cottage below, discovered how properties not as sound proof as would have imagined.. The sound of snoring, albeit quite excessive as the guest did mention he has breathing problems, really alerted me to the lack of sound proofing. Advertised as a 'romantic couple get away' it actually isn't very private in the 'noise' aspect. The walls appear very well insulated, using some of the original walls from previous building? and was exceptionally warm, only needing one of the 2 radiators on to maintain the temperature. However the disturbance caused was irritating and quite embarrassing, as I had to alert the guest to this problem after not able to sleep well for 2 days. He was very apologetic even stating they were leaving early as he didn't want to 'cause any further disturbance. Which I emphatically stated he didn't need to do this. He then suggested he slept on the sofa in the living area which he did for the remainder of their break. I could still hear the snoring, however not as much and peace was almost restored. As I have said it is a lovely place and I only had this experience due to the circumstances at the time. I do think the owners should consider sound proofing the floor in between the 2 properties as I think it would go against what visitors are looking for in this lovely quite part of Shropshire.

From the moment we entered it felt like home.. As we viewed the rest it fully lived up to expectations. The equipment was impressive as was the comfort. The lovely little cakes and the fresh garden flowers were a lovely extra bonus. The cottage is well placed to enjoy the walks in this lovely county, and we certainly enjoyed many, including directly from here. A further bonus was the many villages and pubs, both of which we enjoyed. A really enjoyable week. We will remember it fondly.

Spent Xmas at Robins Nest and it was wonderful.. A lovely Xmas tree was in the lounge and a festive wreath on the door and fresh flowers to welcome us. If you want to get away from the madding crowd this is the ideal place to go. We found some fabulous places to visit and a couple of really old pubs in the area serving great food but we also cooked in our accommodation as it has all the facilities there. There’s a separate laundry room alongside the main house and we were invited to have a look at all the animals on the farm. It is a proper working farm and we took our dog and had some wonderful walks in the countryside. It’s a very picturesque setting and so pleased we found it; it’s a little gem. And the beds are so comfortable too. We had them made up as twins but you can have it as a double if needed. It was very clean and tidy and lovely and warm. Overall this gave us the perfect Xmas break and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending it.

Booking the cottage was easy.. Cottage very good value for money. Pluses. Warm and cosy, bags of piping hot water and the central heating system was excellent, comfy sofa and chair, cottage was clean and welcoming, nice touch with a bottle of wine and nibbles on arrival plus tea tray and milk and biscuits all laid up ready. Also great to actually have some cupboard space to store our food, lots of cottages we rent have no storage and we have to leave food out on worktops all week. Masses of wardrobe space too if we had needed it. Also a good vacuum cleaner so we could give the carpet the once over. Great walking from the cottage too, very important for us. Minuses. Very few. The garden furniture could do with being replaced and the cottage could do with a coat of paint to freshen it, however we are at the end of the season so this may be on the to do list for Winter. We would certainly have no hesitation in re booking or recommending Robin's Nest

We thought it was very good value for money and had a lovely comfortable stay, the cottage was well cared for and thoughtfully well provided for guests. There was a welcome tea tray with a jug of milk and biscuits on our arrival. The owner was on hand if we had any problems, but there were none. The utility room is well equipped for guests' use. We brought our mattress topper but it was not needed as the zip link bed already had a super king size topper on it! This meant we slept very well and woke refreshed ready for another day of walking and exploring Ludlow, the Long Mynd and surrounding area. We can't wait to go back.
