Self-Catering Reviews

Mr Carr
September 2020
Entrance was dirty and scruffy ,not a good first impression.. bathroom was very shabby and not very clean, tv very small for size of room the kitchen was very limiting . plates didnt fit in cupboard. the whole place looked like it need redecorated. overall very dissapointed with it , should say in discription that it's small, and up a narrow staircase . which smelt of damp .

The apartment was comfortable, well equipped and very conveniently positioned so close to the town..

The toilet seat needs fixing properly as noted by several other occupiers.. It is advertised as a luxury apartment but is just acceptable. Starting from the entrance road which has more potholes than road, and leads to a lorry park so you have HGV's passing from early in the morning till night time. The landing light has a few lights out as do the lounge , the tv is a bog standard 26 inch with just freeview no sky or cable or wifi which you expect in most rentals. The kitchen has no storage to put any food except for the small under counter fridge, which only has a small freezer compartment, four ice creams and a packet of fish fingers and its full. The cupboard for the plates is so small the plates have to be stored sideways. The booster pump in the cupboard on the landing is very noisy and cuts in very time the water is turned on in the shower room . The hand basin in the shower room is so small you have to crouch down to wash your face. If you want to shave take a torch cause there is no light above the mirror & basin. The bed was just acceptable and needs replacing putting a mattress topper on it does not work.We were surprised that they had not carried any Covid 19 precautions there were many out of date information leaflets and magazines and games that I doubt had been sanatized and we wondered how safe we were staying there. The times we are in have never been stranger because of this pandemic if you want a good meal out you have to book online at least one week previously, the pubs only let a few people in and shut at about 10 o'clock (take your own supplies ). The flat is convenient for the center of rye with the parking space.

Very well equipped first floor flat.. Everything we needed for a short break in the lovely town of Rye. The owner was easy to contact for the key.

An ideal location to go out days from, but no cupboard storage for food not requiring refrigeration, so best not to arrive with too much.. Rye is a lovely little town to explore. Just needed a short break after being ill, so the apartment suited my needs. Was not as big as pictures led me to believe, but, yes we enjoyed our break.

The road in front of the house not made up and badly rutted.. The ruts were full of water due to the wet weather. There was also a continuous stream of heavy lorries & vans passing the house servicing an industrial park at the far end of the road. On the bright side the house is very convenient for walking into town and is clean and comfortable. The heating worked well for us. All together our stay was great.

The proximity to Rye town of this property is it's best feature.. However, it is at present in a semi- industrial area with builder's lorries & trades vehicles passing at all times. In so doing they create noise & throw up dust & mud from the unmade track in front of the property onto your parked vehicle. Indeed, whilst we were there the Environment agency were undertaking major works in front of the property AND next door had it's roof removed & replaced, forcing us to vacate the property all day on what should have been a lovely relaxing day (my birthday) because of the noise. The property should not even have been let out this week!! The photographs on Sykes site show a recently decorated interior. In fact you describe it as ' immaculately-presented first floor apartment .. located just a short stroll from the centre of historic Rye, with views over Strand Quay. Luxuriously appointed throughout with modern and comfortable furnishings'.It sounds idyllic, but the reality is very different. Not only was it noisy & dusty..but inside the flat the paint work needed refreshing in every room, particularly on the worn & chipped/dirty bed posts , chest of drawers & on the walls especially scuffs in the hall/entrance/stairwells. The kitchen was missing basic items such as wine glasses & a casserole (lid but no base). No tea towels provided. Bedroom: cheap basket bedside cabinets that you couldn't stand a cup of tea on safely. Bed end nearly touching fireplace, so squeezing past to go to the bathroom at night in the dark was extremely difficult. Bathroom extremely cramped with a basin designed for under the stair cloakroom. Tiniest shower we had ever been in! All in all we were most disappointed in the property & didn't feel it was good value for money. It was totally misrepresented on your website & we have lost confidence in booking with you again.

We enjoyed the location and the facilities were adequate but the decor was in need of refurbishment it was a bit tired looking..

Great location, lovely flat everything is there that you need for a weeks break

December 2018
It was in a perfect location, 5 mins walk into Rye and lovely beaches and shops within driving distance.. The flat was warm, clean and had everything we needed, plenty of cleaning stuff, loo rolls and tea bags which was lovely. Just a couple of minor things which weren't really a problem but just so people are aware. There is no cupboard space for any food in the kitchen, we cooked breakfast and dinner each day and had to put cereal and tins on the floor. Also the telly is very tiny and hardly any channels, there was a play station but no leads on the controllers so we couldn't play it! The road outside was in a dreadful state of disrepair, we had never seen holes like it and worried about the damage to the car. However we did really enjoy our stay and would defiantly like to go back.

A lovely comfortable apartment, however, there were no instructions for the use of the dishwasher (we had to wash dishes in the sink), there were no cupboards to store food and there was no teapot! Otherwise a very enjoyable stay.
Mrs Hewett
September 2018
The apartment is exactly as listed, the problem of getting a slightly dusty car is far outweighed by the excellent location of the property and having your car directly at your door.. The bathroom is small but perfectly adequate and there was always lots of hot water. The kitchen was well equipped, it was great to have salt and pepper and oil provided. The real plus is that it really is close to the town and one of the Best Fish and Chip shops we have had Fish and Chips from. Two adults staying is perfect, I believe two adults and two children would be okay, and three adults would be fine. We really enjoyed the stay.

The property was well presented, and in an ideal location, being close to a number of good restaurants, and with easy walking distance of the centre of Rye.. Having a space to park outside the front door was a very real plus in this crowded little town. The only facility lacking wasWiFi.

February 2018
For the cost the flat was adequate.. Immediate impact was a difficult front door lock followed by a stale smell on entering. Kitchen good and adequately equipped although fridge door is broken. Shower/toilet very cramped and toilet seat needs adjusting to stay up: towels provided very stale and did smell bad. Bedroom comfortable and linen fresh. Sitting room comfortable although view often marred by heavy truck traffic on the badly potholed unmade road. Location good for walking to town. Overall a rating of 4 out of 10 but reflects the price paid. Would not go back or recommend.
Mrs Chadwick
November 2017
The picture of the apartment showed a harbourside location and gave no indication of the articulated lorries, vans, commercial vehicles and construction plant which constantly and with much noise rumbled through the very pot holed road from 4.. 00 a.m. Our car had to be professionally valeted due to the heavy splashes sprayed on both the boot and bonnet depending on which way we parked our vehicle in front of the apartment.
Mrs Whalin
July 2017
I found the apartment very clean and comfortable and everything we could need was there.. It was within easy access to town and close to local beaches. Every care had been taken by the owner/caretaker to assist us with our stay

Charming and well-equipped apartment. Pleasant views from the sitting room. Excellent location for Rye town. The on-site parking space is a rare amenity in Rye accommodation! Great base for exploring Sussex and Kent.

March 2016
The flat was in an excellent position for all the amenities Rye has to offer, as everything was within walking distance. The flat was clean and fresh with everything you could want, very comfortable.

Well equipped cosy cottage in an excellent location. It was clean, modern and well presented and the heating was quick to heat the whole property. The owner had left plenty of instructions and information on the local area. Highly recommended.
Mrs Edwards
September 2015
It was clean and bright, and perfectly placed for the centre of Rye, with parking. The sitting room was lovely and there was a good sized bed. There was always plenty of hot water and good quick heating when required.
Mr Dickson
March 2015
The Apartment was ideally situated for the shops, restaurants etc. It was west facing therefore had lovely views over the river the sunsets. Rye appears to be a very clean place. There are plenty of places to visit in the area either by car or by walking.
Mrs Bacon
February 2015
A lovely clean, homely little apartment in a prime location really close to the town and all the pubs restaurants, but still nice quiet at night. We were able to take a long walk from the apartment right down to the mouth of the harbour Camber Sands so we didn't use our car once. Rye is such a beautiful place. A great weekend break.
Mrs Watts
December 2014
Liked the location to the town and its facilities, the cottage was very well equipped.
Mrs Hutchings
October 2014
Rye is a part of the country that neither myself or my husband had previously visited- we were both very impressed with its old world charm and unspoilt appearance. Everywhere we visited we were made very welcome and the food in all the eateries was lovely. The apartment we stayed in was so handy for a walk into town or to the river walk - and visits to Great Dixter and Bodiam Castle were very interesting, so all in all a very successful trip!
Mrs Mohr
August 2014
Weather was great! Property was very close to the town and supermarket. Parking lot in front. Simple handling of keys etc. Friendly owner.

May 2014
A lovely apartment perfect for the two of us for a long weekend visit. It is in a great location, only a couple of minutes from the town centre and less than 10 minutes walk from the train station. We had a lovely time here.
Mr Granger
April 2014
The location was fantastic, and on the whole it was very quiet, whilst being only just a few minutes walk away from the town centre, and to have its own parking space was a great advantage. The views from the front room over the tidal river were great. Altogether an ideal retreat. Lots of great pubs and restaurants again all within a short distance. Altogether a great holiday.

Wonderfully soft and nice smelling towels! Excellent location, very central and great views. Useful literature in property which we took advantage of. Great position from which to tour.
