Recently returned from a weeks stay at Gorsthead Mill Farm. Beautiful farmhouse with a large downstairs. Huge kitchen, comfy lounge for relaxing after a busy day walking. Stunning location, very peaceful other than the occasional steam train passing by. Well equipped for all our needs. Helpful owner when we needed the toaster replaced... it arrived the next morning! Lots to do in the area... Leek is the nearest town with some quirky independent shops tucked away from the main high street. Would recommend.

We had such a lovely time at the cottage .. Myself and husband , daughter and hubby with my three granddaughters , my youngest son and his girlfriend . So much space and no one getting under each other’s feet. Wi fi was brilliant as my husband and son in law had work to do . We are hoping to book again . The views and surrounding area are amazing . Absolutely recommend this lovely home !

A brilliant place to stay in.. Beautifully well maintained and equipped. All the comforts of home. Surroundings big and safe enough to keep children busy. Gortshead is close to areas of interest and walks. I would strongly recommend this place to all and sundry. Matt and Liz make you feel welcomed and would make sure that you are for want of nothing. Our thanks to them for making our stay a memorable one.

A great spacious "cottage" which fitted our family gathering well.. Owner very helpful and even called us while we were there to check everything was OK. Access to local fields was great, but due to the weather we didn't venture too far by foot. Great kitchen + diner, lounge with log burner (which got a bit cold), very useful boot room (could do with some coat hooks!), comfy beds. Overall It's not far to Leek which was worth a visit, as was the Peak Wildlife Park down the road.... as long as you can find the turning upon your return in the dark, as it's easy to miss. Overall - very good.

We stayed at Gorstead Mill Farm in November to celebrate a birthday in our friendship group.. The cottage and surroundings are absolutely stunning. The owners were so helpful and were available to contact whenever we needed. The owners allowed us to extend our check out, free of charge which was a lovely added bonus. The cottage has everything you need and more! Cannot recommend this place enough!

A gathering of 11 family members.. ages from oaps to 4yrs, everyone was happy especially the smallest one with the toys and games. The wood burning stove was a hit with the 14yr old who perfected his pyrotechnic skills. Good food and drink were enjoyed in the well equipped spacious kitchen - also challenging games in the evening. A lovely setting very peaceful and we could imagine it would be very relaxing in the warmer months of the year. Good location - within easy reach of many local attractions to suit all our needs - perhaps the entrance to the drive from the main road could be a little clearer? it is ok once found but is something of a challenge when you do not know the area. All in all a good location, beautiful surroundings and a comfortable holiday home.

This is a lovely cottage with lots of space, books, games, information and a very well stocked kitchen - lots of pans, glasses etc.. The boot room is great if you have a dog and it's raining as it's a good 'drying off' and storage space, however the garden isn't enclosed and there's a small brook at the bottom with a steep embankment so we kept our dog away from there. Lots of places to go within a short drive including parks and fields to walk the dog.The owner contacted me to check everything was ok and returned the bond within a couple of days too.

This was the perfect house for a large family gathering of all ages.. The teenagers loved the freedom of the annexe and the surroundings provided the perfect place for the younger ones' Easter egg hunt. The large kitchen was a fantastic focal point and accommodated 20 for dinner easily. So close to stunning scenery and beautiful small towns. Owners very helpful. I highly recommend this property.

Great place for a large gathering.. Grass could have done with cutting as we had two dogs with us and it was hard to scrutinise for debris with all the dandelions and tufts of grass.

We had a fabulous week walking in the Peak District in February which was made even better by the quality of Gorstead Mill Farm when we returned each day.. Warm, cosy, well equipped and beautifully situated with a peaceful view. The cottage was fabulous and the owners offered assistance should anything be awry, which it wasn't. I'd recommend both the area and the cottage for large families or groups of like minded friends keen to enjoy the beauty of the Peaks.

We were large a party of 14 (including four children and two toddlers) the property was just what we needed - spacious, comfortable and well-equipped.. The owners were really friendly and helpful. The bedrooms were well sized and comfy, with plenty of extra pillows, blankets and duvets and it was lovely opening the window and being able to hear the stream and birds in the mornings. We had a relaxing family week-long holiday here visiting nearby attractions, visiting Dovedale twice for a hike (and ice cream!) heading out on countryside walks and eating Bakewell pudding in Bakewell.

We had a lovely holiday in the Peaks at this cottage.. The house was as described and had everything we needed for a home away from home. There was ample parking, lots of space for kids to play and adults to chill out, a fantastic dinner table and even an ice machine on the fridge! We did have a problem that previous guests had not warned the owner that the gas had run out for the annexe meaning no heating/hot water in that room. This did get sorted out though eventually. Overall we had a great stay, the cottage is in a good location for exploring and is well furnished.

What a lovely house Gorsthead Mill Farm is.. I would definitely recommend it. Me and my 7 friends stayed here for my 40th birthday weekend and we had an amazing time, in part because of the beautiful house and surroundings. The house had everything we needed (even a slow cooker) and it was warm and comfortable and inviting. The weather was snowing at the time and it was lovely to settle down in front of the log burner and keep warm and cozy. The house is clean, the bedrooms are large and spacious and the beds are pretty comfy too. The bed linen was clean and crisp and the bath towels were soft and fluffy. Perfect. The owner is lovely and makes sure you’re all settled and everything is ok which was really lovely and welcoming. We went to a lovely local pub (the jarvis arms) for Sunday dinner which was delicious. We will definitely book again maybe in the summer or autumn so we can go for long walks round the surrounding areas without our wellies.

The house was lovely but was unfortunately just off a very busy main road so despite being in the countryside there wasn’t anywhere to go for a run, walk or family cycle.. We had some trouble with the heating in the annexe but eventually we were able to sort this following a couple of conversations with the owners and we had a rather serious leak in the living room when it rained but despite that the main house was well appointed, warm, comfortable and cosy.

We stayed for a week a Gorsthead Mill Farm and had a truly wonderful time.. The house has everything you need and more and so much space. Our kids loved running around. Despite the temperatures outside being close to freezing we were cosy and warm inside. The Log burner wasn't needed but we still put it on most evenings. I would thoroughly recommend this house to anyone looking for either a relaxing weekend or something a bit more energetic as there are numerous walks close by and the scenery is beautiful

We booked the house as a surprise 65th birthday (family gathering) and the location, house and facilities did not disappoint! From start to finish we had a fantastic week and couldn't recommend highly enough. Communication with Matt (the owner) was great, emails were quickly answered and they even let us check in early to help us with the surprise - great service! The house is nestled away and although you feel secluded it is easly accessible and you can venture out by car or walking which we took full advantage of. The house has everything you need - the log fire is beautiful, a wonderfully equipped kitchen and plenty of bathrooms. We will certainly come back in the summer months to take advantage of the decked area.

This farmhouse is in a great location to explore the surrounding area with all essential amenities nearby in Leek. It was lovely to stay somewhere that provided plenty of glasses, plates and cutlery etc. The wood-burner was a nice treat to sit around in the evenings and we all enjoyed playing some of the board games available to use. We had a problem with the main oven not working but Matt the owner tried his best to sort it out for us. Chatsworth house is within a reasonable travelling distance and we spent a lovely day there exploring both house and gardens - well worth a visit especially if it is a sunny day as the views are amazing.

If you are planning a stay in the Peaks with friends or family then this luxury farmhouse is a great bet. Off the main road with no other property in sight, you are in splendid isolation but just a few minutes (by car) from the pleasant town of Leek. The accommodation is very well equipped, well-kept and with its wood burner (with wood available) in the large lounge, very cosy!

Our family stayed here for a week while touring this area of the country and we loved it. It has the country get-away feeling of being surrounded by nature while being close enough to main roads that it's easy to travel about and also is very convenient drive to Leek for food, drink, and shopping. The house is beautiful yet comfortable, spacious, and had everything we needed. The kitchen and dining area are wonderfully sized for families/groups who want to visit over meals together. I think you will be very pleased with your stay here!
