Area

Just a short drive away are Lake Windermere (8 miles), the villages of Bowness-on-Windermere and Hawkshead, which still retain the charm and character that has endeared them to so many, and the home of sticky toffee pudding, Cartmel, with its famous racecourse and the L’Enclume restaurant, which has been voted the 4th best restaurant in the UK. Other attractions in the area include Levens Hall, with its Elizabethan Hall and world famous topiary gardens, Sizergh Castle, a National Trust medieval house and gardens, and Conishead Priory, a Gothic revival country house. Set amidst the southern lakes, the attractive town of Grange-over-Sands makes a superb base from which to enjoy the whole of this magical area.

What a lovely apartment - well equipped, lovely modern decor and super clean! Beautiful views and so well located to have a wander into Grange over Sands for a morning coffee or takeaway in the evening. Train station close by - only 15 min walk along the promenade and handy to go on for other places. Super place and will definitely be booking again!

Wonderfully equipped and comfortable apartment.. The drive is steeper and narrower than anticipated and a vehicle any wider than my Mini Countryman wouldn’t manage to get up there, it probably needs describing as extremely narrow at the top half. Aside of that everything else was spot on. Really enjoyed our stay, the information and communication from the owner is brilliant! Lovely view over to the bay.

Loved this property! It was spacious, clean and comfy. Beds were superb, which is very unusual, shower brilliant. Everything was considered and provided and the views are brilliant, our pet enjoyed the sun coming through big bay windows. It was winter and cold outside, the flat was very snug! We had no issue getting car up driveway, we have a large 4x4, we flipped in wing mirrors. Getting about by train is very good, you are 15mins from station if you go via town or 25 if you take the flat promenade, which ia really nice for the walk home at night. Oh and the cleaning /maintenance company were brilliant, especially when I managed to lock us out like a total idiot. The gentleman who came to let is in was lovely and understanding!

Fantastic location will be visiting the area again

Comfortable , spacious apartment.. Very well thought out with electrical points etc. in convenient places and spotlessly clean . Equipment of good quality and, as it was Christmas, a Christmas tree and just the right amount of decorations which we weren't expecting. Thank you for a lovely stay!

A lovely comfortable and spacious apartment with good quality furnishings.. We managed to enjoy ourselves despite the pretty awful weather. A great spot for getting out further into the lake district or nipping across on the train to Arnside or as we did, catching it to Cark and walking back through Cartmel. Plenty of room for three of us plus dog and also plenty of storage space, often lacking in other holiday homes we've had. We had a little "drama" on the way home and the owners went out their way to try to help, so thank you again for that.

Flaxford House is a comfortable & well equipped apartment with lovely views over to Morecambe Bay.. It is well-situated for exploring Grange-over-sands and the surrounding areas of the South Lakes. The only problem for us was the tight passage that you need to negotiate to get to the parking behind the house, especially in our brand new car ! Overall, though, a very pleasant stay Thank you.

The apartment was perfect, really nicely decorated, had a nice feel to it and had all the necessary items in the kitchen.. The bed was so comfy and the added benefit of the outdoor space at the front was a bonus. Such a lovely property to take or dog to aswell. The apartment was really near the shops, the park across the road and the path down to the promenade! Ideal for us all, the kids loved it, we had a great holiday and the dog was in his element!!! It was a win win from us!!!!! We squeezed up the driveway but wouldn't like to try to get a bigger car up there!!!!

The property is a ground floor apartment in a substantial Victorian semi detatched house.. The small garden area with seating is at the front and space for parking at the back. The drive is steep and quite narrow but should be no problem for the smaller SUV. The apartment is spacious and well furnished. It is possible to glimpse the sea from the bay window of the lounge. We found the bed very comfortable. The appliances in the kitchen were easy to use. There are a variety of shops within walking disrance, including a Co-op and Tesco Local and a butcher almost opposite the property.

Off to a shaky start, cleaners hadn't been in (we arrived at 3.. 10 pm), the gas fire wasn't working and there was no heating on so it was really cold. However after a couple of phone calls 2 very nice ladies arrived and cleaned and changed beds etc. A plumber came to look at the fire and new part ordered though we never heard any more about it. Anyway after the first day we warmed up and things got better. The apartment itself is lovely, really nicely decorated and (maybe apart from the sofas, ) comfortable. Loved the high ceilings and cornicing, the view from the windows and nicely fitted kitchen. Drive needs a bit of care until you get used to it. Grange is a good base to get into the lakes and we also enjoyed taking the train across to Arnside. We ate at the commodore Inn a couple of times, not posh but really friendly, dogs welcome and great food. The promised prosseco never arrived but we put the bin out anyway!

The Apartment 1 Flaxford House was well equipped and clean.. However, I would caution any one that if you are looking to relax in comfort. This is definitely NOT for you. Also, the width of the driveway and the unevenness of the walls either side should have been more prominently 'advertised' prior to booking. There was at its narrowest less than a couple of inches from the side of my car. If I had not 'folded' the mirrors access would have been impossible! As it was, even though I was careful, I scratched the wing mirror casing on my new Range Rover. I believe Sykes have a responsibility to warn potential buyers of such hazards prior to taking a booking. But this was not the worst bit by a long chalk. As for comfort. There was NONE. An old three/ four seat sofa which you could not sit comfortably on. Two very uncomfortable chairs were also supplied. This was certainly not the place to go if relaxation and comfort were even a slight criteria. In our case it was a disaster because we needed somewhere to relax in comfort. My wife has recovering from a breast cancer operation By Tuesday evening we could not put up with this any more and left first thing Wednesday morning. Very dissatisfied and of course we shall NOT be using Sykes again.

Our third visit, love Grange and love the flat.. Best apartment we have ever been to. Have booked again for next June. Owners very considerate of our needs.

August 2018
Newly furbished flat to high quality but driveway to property very steep and narrow, parking space tight.. Comfort in lounge could be improved with better seating. Welcome pack would have been good with more than one poor quality toilet roll for 4 people. Sykes came out promptly when oven was a problem.

The flat was very well put together and looked great, but the furniture was very uncomfortable and the beds not much better.. They need more dishes in the kitchen and a better supply of the right batteries for the remotes as we had to go out and buy some, they had the wrong size in the cupboard.

July 2018
Excellent location, very handy for the shops.. Lovely, interesting accommodation and suitable for dogs. The outside table and chairs were excellent for lazy breakfasts and suppers. We would ideally have liked to have been able to open the window in the second bedroom (although this hot weather is unusual!). As others have commented, the driveway up to the parking is VERY narrow, but you get more confident about it each time. We've booked two properties through Sykes Cottages now, and they have both been absolutely excellent. The booking, key collection etc. is very straightforward. I've had to answer 'met expectations' for Sykes, because my expectations were already high!

June 2018
Had a brilliant time on our second visit.. Only drawback was the wheelie bin as it didn't seem to have been emptied by the previous visitors and the kitchen bins had not been emptied. This made the bin rather heavy and it required the two of us to take it down the drive for emptying. However as we love the property, the owners are very helpful and we also love the area we are returning in September

This apartment was fitted out to a high standard and spotless! Love the big bay windows and the huge modern shower. Great view out to the bay and close to the shops etc but really quiet. My dog enjoyed the walks along the prom which was surprisingly quiet. Love the village of Cartmel 5 mins away with fantastic meals at the Cavendish Arms which was dog friendly. Ideal spot to visit the Lakes, no negatives to report.

Our second visit to this property.. Excellent location, very comfortable and spacious, beautiful view and dog friendly too.

December 2017
The property is very comfortable and very well equipped with quality furniture and appliances and also free Netflix is included which adds to the enjoyment.. One minor gripe is that the company that services the property only left 2 inferior quality loo rolls to last 4 adults for 7 days over the Christmas period and no spare bin bags. Some people may also find the narrow access drive a problem and your dependence of considerate parking by the adjoining property, as we had to ask them on our arrival, to move 2 of the 3 vehicles that were parked there preventing us from accessing our parking allocation.
Mrs Mcgahey

Flaxford House is a fabulous apartment.. Beautifully clean & warm, it has made for a relaxing break for us. Dog friendly is an added bonus. Grange is a lovely place to stay. The apartment is a 2 minute walk from the bakery, Co-op & grocer. Easy to get onto the promenade & not too far to the other shops, it is definitely one of our favourite Sykes properties.

This was one of the cleanest and best equipped properties we have stayed in since we have been booking through Sykes.. The location was an excellent base for exploring the Southern Lakes and North Lancashire.

September 2017
Have been on holiday with you on several occasions and this property is definitely superior.. Fantastic, well decorated rooms, good furnishings, equipment second to none. Having had an extremely traumatic few months, it was great to relax in this lovely apartment. Only drawback was having to take the wheelie bin down the steep long narrow drive. Have already booked to return next year as we love the area.

Parking arrangements tricky but that would not stop us booking again.. Lovely apartment in good location.

The driveway to the property is very narrow and difficult to access.. This would be the only thing that would put me off booking the property again.

We had a fabulous week staying at Flaxford House. Booked through Sykes, the apartment was probably the best we have ever stayed in. Parking was good - round the back of the house (bit narrow to drive through, but fine as hubby took responsibility). The accommodation was of a very high standard - the kitchen has recently been re-fitted & is lovely. All the rooms are spacious & comfortable. We took our dog with us - so lovely to find a beautiful apartment that is doggy friendly. Plenty of information for attractions around Grange-Over-Sands. We also enjoyed watching a few of our favourite films on Netflix in the evening. We had never been to Grange - what a gorgeous place. We wandered around the town - the tea-shops are mainly dog friendly. The train station is a 20 minute saunter along the prom & we enjoyed a couple of days out by train. We loved our week so much we've already booked to go again.

August 2016
A very nicely appointed property, presented to a very high standard and with some useful 'extras.' Grange made an ideal base for a week exploring the Lake District, and it was good to know that there was a range of high quality food shops and other amenities on our doorstep. In short, it was one of those places where it was always nice to come back to at the end of the day, no matter how much fun we had been having.

Spacious ground floor apartment. Clean with crisp fresh linen and towels. We particularly liked the excellent shower-room. Good location within easy walk of town centre and promenade and a nice view of the Estuary/bay.

Excellent property overall. It is great that one pet is allowed. The enclosed garden was also very good. Location ideal. The shower was excellent. A benefit that bed linen and towels were provided. It is a place we would look to book again.

Great place to stay. We found it ideal. The property is very clean, high standard throughout. Added bonus of free Wi-Fi and Netflix. Nice enclosed garden where the dog could roam freely in and out of the house. Beds were very comfortable. The shower was amazing and powerful. A fault developed with the shower and a plumber was out well within the hour to fix it. I have been going to Grange Over Sands for about 30 years now and consider this one of the best places I have stayed and at a very good price. I will certainly be looking to book again on my next visit to Grange.
