Built in 1863 and completely renovated in 2008, this mighty villa in the Epirus region of Greece combines historic features and quirky modern additions in a rather unique fashion.
On the ground floor, the living and dining rooms are low-lit and heavy on wood in the decor, including a tree-trunk stool and a handsome light feature above the table. The next storey up feels like a different property altogether thanks to the white walls and the grey classical-style reliefs on the wall. The grand bedrooms throw up additional surprises, as do the bathrooms — one of which has a hammam big enough for six to share.
Last but by no means least is the home's courtyard, which has beautiful views of Zagori's hillsides and plenty of seating from which to enjoy it — not to forget a hot tub as well. Nearby, there are monasteries, museums and caves to explore, while the lakeside city of Ioannina takes forty-five minutes to reach in the car.
