One of the cosiest and nicest cottages I’ve stayed in. Tucked away in a very quiet area, yet close to lots of things to do.
The stream running next to the garden lends an air of tranquillity, it was a shame we caught the tail end of storm Kathleen the weekend we stayed so didn’t get to enjoy the garden, but I’m sure on sunnier days it would have been a lovely place to relax. The grass was attended to while we were out one day leaving it nicely mown and with pretty spring flowers. There is a table to sit out.
The kitchen is well equipped, though not space for a dishwasher, which didn’t bother me as I don’t own one, but might be expected of other guests. The view from the kitchen window though meant washing up was a pleasure! There was a supply of herbs and spices and other cupboard things you wouldn’t think to bring. Good size fridge in the kitchen and a separate freezer located in the handy cloakroom area by the back door and bathroom.
It felt like being home, the house having many cosy touches, such as blankets, beautiful art on the walls, and lots of books to read, including guides books and local walks printed out in their helpful info folder. There were torches and batteries in the drawers, and plenty of glasses and mugs. We bought firewood to make use of the lovely fireplace too.
The beds were comfy, though if you are tall the main bedroom iron bed frame might restrict your toes a little! We slept well, apart from the wind and rain from storm Kathleen, which couldn’t be helped, but the walls are thick and the cottage warm so it didn’t matter too much. Plenty of linens and towels.
Space for one car only, on a very quiet road, we hardly saw anyone.
Recommended nearby are Wolfscastle pottery, Paul was so lovely teaching my niece how to make a bowl, that she proudly collected to take home a couple of days later. He was so kind and patient, and we enjoyed chatting with him, and buying some lovely pottery! We also enjoyed the Iron Age Village at Castell henilys, it gets mixed reviews, but we found the staff very informative and willing to answer our questions, my niece enjoyed making Iron Age bread. Staff could have been more of them around to talk to to be honest, but those that were were brilliant. If you download their app you get to find out more about the place as you walk around, and there’s a quiz to do as you walk around. The app is brilliant.
Strumble head lighthouse is a must see for gorgeous views.
Venturing further out recommend st David’s for a nice day out, cathedral is beautiful and peters plaice fish and chips was superb, best I’ve had in ages. Lots of lovely shops to explore.
Will definitely be back to explore the area more and would stay here again, I’d like to live there permanently! It was like being welcomed into someone’s home.
