Area In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the northern tip of Anglesey, Llanfechell is a tiny community that is 1.5 miles from Cemaes Bay. The nearby 12th-century Mechell Church, which has been expanded over the years and is said to be the location of St. Mechell's burial, is where the village derives its name. The area is well-liked by geologists and archaeologists because of the rock formations at Mechell Mountain and the numerous ancient monuments dispersed about, some of which are said to be among the oldest in the world. The ancient Parys Mountain copper mines, with their lunar-like scenery, are seven miles away.
