Area
This charming little market town is situated in southern Snowdonia, halfway between the sea and the Cader Idris mountain range. It's a fantastic home base for a vacation, ideal for combining the many outdoor activities available in Snowdonia with leisurely days at Barmouth, Fairbourne, and Aberdovey's soft sand beaches. The town itself has a good assortment of stores, five pubs, a wine bar, as well as many top-notch cafés, restaurants and bakeries that daily produce fresh bread and pastries. Dolgellau is said to have the highest concentration of listed buildings in all of Wales, with over 200 of them, and it has been classified as a "cycle break centre," with several specific cycle routes running through the town. The Coed y Brenin Mountain bike trail is nearby, and the area is perfect for peaceful outdoor activity because it is close to mountains, forests, waterfalls, castles, and beaches.
