Area
Prenteg is a small village in Snowdonia National Park, located at the base of Moel Ddu Mountain and not far from Tremadog Bay. Village once known for its slate and copper mining is now famous for being home to Wales' only nesting osprey. Pothmadog, just 4 miles away along the Glaslyn Estuary, is a lively harbour town with an exciting marina, a wide variety of unique shops and restaurants, and the historic Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Heritage Railway. The fantastic Italianate village of Portmeirion is a must-see, and the picturesque cliffs and coves, as well as the enormous Black Rock Beach, make for a perfect day trip. This is a great place to stay to explore Snowdonia and the Llyn Peninsula, as you will be close to the mountain towns of Criccieth, Harlech, and Caernarfon, as well as many other outdoor attractions. Within a ten- to twenty-minute car ride, you can reach a number of stunning sand beaches. Borth-y-Gest, a hidden gem; Shell Island; Black Rock Sands; and Porthdinllaen, where a walk around the picturesque peninsula takes you to the Ty Coch Inn on the beach, rated one of the top 10 best beach bars in the world; all of these beaches are in North Wales. There are many wonderful beaches on the Llyn Peninsula, such as Porth Oer Beach, also called Whistling Sands because of the sound the sand makes when you walk on it, and where you can enjoy surfing, bodyboarding, and a delicious meal at the beachside café.
