Area The charming, peaceful community of Penygroes is just six miles from Caernarfon, a historic castle town, and it borders the Snowdonia National Park, where great treks and mountain vistas are easily accessible. The hamlet has a nice assortment of stores, cafes, and bars, and the surrounding area is full of restaurants and recreational opportunities like golfing, swimming, tennis, surfing, and horseback riding, to mention a few. The Gun Room restaurant is located at the nearby Plas Dinas Country House, which is also the site of some fascinating history. The beaches on Anglesey and the Llyn Peninsula may be reached in by car, while Dinas Dinlle's beach is only a short drive away. Caernarfon Castle, which is located nearby and is well worth a visit, offers additional shops and eateries in addition to steam train excursions. Another nearby location that was a setting for the television show "The Prisoner" is Portmeirion.
