The cabin was in a scenic area; the master bedroom and bathroom were nice, and we were allowed to store our bikes in the proprietor’s shed. Overall, however, we do not recommend the accommodation. This is based primarily on the fact that it has been neglected with a number of items in need of repair or replacing.
We had no welcome from the proprietors – the cabin was left open with the keys placed in a box. There were a dozen dead roses on the table in a vase.
The main door of the cabin is broken – it appeared to have been hung too low. This meant that the cabin could only be locked from the outside, which was hugely inconvenient. There are 3 windows in the cabin with broken handles.
Upon entering the cabin we were consistently met with a musty smell. The bottom of the kitchen units are all water stained around the sink area, so it appeared that the leaking pipes under the sink had been going on for some time. A pan was under the sink to catch the water.
The kitchen area was unclean – the cutlery required washing as there was dried food on many of them. There were bits of leaves, food, and hair found in the drawers. Pieces of bread remained in the grill pan of the cooker and the toaster.
The dishes in the kitchen were stained with food, and many were chipped. The kitchen’s crockery, and cooking pans and utensils are mismatched, appearing to be what you may find at a boot sale. As previously reported on an earlier review, the pans were scorched and limited. The toaster also was damaged.
The fridge was dirty and required wiping down before use. The inside of the fridge door was also broken and so could not be used.
The washing machine was stained with several large spots of black mould.
The gas cooker was not fit for purpose and dangerous. Two of the four hobs did not work (we notice this was previously reported in an earlier review). The flame of the two hobs that did work (after lighting with a match!) could not be adjusted. The gas oven was useless. It took 9 hours for us to cook our roast meat! This is likely due to the fact that the flame could not be adjusted and most of the heat escaped out the oven door – there was a large gap in between the grill and the oven.
We also found the wood stove in the living room left full of ash.
Finally, parts of the cabin were dusty and there were several cob webs found. The cabin really needs to be repaired and cleaned properly before any future lettings. We certainly left the cabin in a much cleaner state than what we found it. In the meantime, this cabin should not be marketed as “luxury” as it falls well below this standard in its current state.
