DescriptionCaherduff is a recently renovated mid-nineteenth century stone building situated 1 mile from Cong village at the northern shore of Lough Corrib and 5 miles from Ballinrobe and Lough Mask. Cong is a popular village not least since it featured in the now classic film 'The Quiet Man'. There are several restaurants and pubs in the village. Another visitor attraction is Ashford Castle situated on the Corrib lakeshore near Cong village. A special feature of the house is it\'s underfloor heating system, which is ideally suited to a flagstone floor, which covers half of the living room and the kitchen.Accommodation4 bedrooms (1 double ensuite, 2 double and 1 twin)Large Living Room, fully equipped modern Kitchen, gas cooker etc. Local AmenitiesLoughs Corrib & Mask - popular trout fishing lakes,Horse Riding, Golf, Walking, Lake cruising. Within easy reach of Galway City (27 miles) Westport (22 miles) Cong The village of Cong in County Mayo is where much of the Quiet Man, starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara, was filmed. Although you can retrace the steps of the actors throughout the town, there is much more to Cong than just a movie set. The village is small and intimate with excellent pubs. Also, there is an authentic famine house nearby and the ruins of an old abbey right in the town.Adjacent to the abbey, you will find a path along the river where you can stroll through one of the loveliest forests in Ireland. And, best of all, a short distance outside the village is magnificent Ashford Castle, perhaps the most dramatic castle in Ireland. (Indeed it is our favourite.)Ashford Castle dates from the 12th Century, and you are permitted to stroll around the grounds to get a feeling of what Ireland was like hundreds of years ago even if you are not a resident. For all the elegance and splendour of Ashford Castle, it is still run by the Irish and you will not find better innkeepers anywhere in the world.
Cruise Holidays
The largest lake in the Republic of Ireland is called Lough Corrib. Measuring 68 sq. miles and with 365 islands, this lake is one of the cleanest, most un-sploit and most scenic in all of Europe.
A cruise through this unique waterway is a must while visiting the West of Ireland. In 1977 'Corrib Cruises' began operating on Lough Corrib and today is the longest established and most experienced company cruising these waters.
Equestrian Holidays
Riding Irish horses on your holiday can get you to places seldom seen.
We ride over 3000 acres of the former estate of Ashford Castle which was once the home of the Guinness family. Lord Ardilaun built tunnels under the roads to avoid the inconvenience of opening gates, a gesture which we much appreciate today.
Ashford Equestrian Centre actively breeds and trains quality Connemara Ponies, Irish Draughts and Irish Sport Horses. The Irish Draught's qualities of strength, sound constitution, docility and intelligence are well recognised. Today the Irish Draught is sought after for its breeding qualities, being used more and more to get extra bone and substance in the progeny.
