A Country View Cottage is a delightful detached cottage situated six miles from the medieval heritage town of Athenry in County Galway and can sleep twelve people in one king-size double bedroom, a ground floor double with en-suite and two family rooms. There is a family bathroom on the ground floor. The rest of the property contains an open plan living area with kitchen, dining area and sitting area with multi-fuel stove. There is an additional sitting area (seats 5) with an open fire, a conservatory, a utility and a games room with pool table, table football, table tennis and mountain bikes. To the outside of the property there is ample off road parking and a front enclosed lawned garden and rear patio with furniture and barbecue. A Country View Cottage is a spacious property ideal for families or groups of friends looking to explore this lovely part of the Emerald Isle.

Main ground floor bathroom with Jacuzzi bath, separate walk-in pump shower, basin and WC. Open plan living area with kitchen, dining area and sitting area with multi-fuel stove. Utility. Sitting room (seats 7) with electric imitation fire. Conservatory (seats 8). Please note that there are black out blinds on roof windows in bedrooms on first floor.

Area
Athenry is a medieval heritage town in County Galway in the west of Ireland. The town's charter was granted in 1235 and has town walls dating from 1310, of which approximately two thirds still remain. Athenry Castle dates from the 13th century and retains a three storey tower which now houses an exhibition area. The town has an abundance of shops, bars and restaurants and is home to Athenry Golf Club. The city of Galway is just 15 miles away and has a large selection of attractions and is regarded as one of the best tourist destinations in Europe. The coastline and beaches of the west of Ireland are just a short drive away, making Athenry a superb holiday destination for touring this beautiful part of Ireland.

Stayed here for 2 weeks with work, the house is stunning and finished to the highest standard! Originally only booked one week but quickly booked the second week after settling into this home from home. John is not only very helpful but also a genuinely nice bloke if you get to meet him. 9 of us enjoyed a week in this house and loved every minute. Spotless, spacious, modern and cosy -just perfect for our family holiday. John was the perfect host and nothing was too much trouble. Situated in beautiful Irish countryside with fantastic views yet close to villages and towns. We experienced all Galway had to offer and will be booking again. Supermarkets are close by so we could really relax in the house. All bedrooms are large and the garden was perfect for relaxing. Perfect.

The holiday was great overall and the house was perfect! John met us the day we arrived and was full of chat and helpful information. There were 9 of us staying for the week and we all fit very comfortably in the home. The facilities were great and everything was very clean. The area was nice and quiet also so everyone had great sleep and relaxation the days we spent in the house. Would definitely recommend this house for an Irish holiday :)

we were a party of 7 adults and 5 kids & stayed here start of july 2020. we had a great week even though the weather was awful! .... the house is huge and there was plenty of room for everyone, the place was spotless and the beds were very comfortable, it provides all the comforts of home and the owner is on hand at all times if we needed him, beautiful outdoor seating area and garden for the kids to run around, would definitely recommend!

Fantastic cottage with evrything you need (sunny and rainy days - with indoor activities), ideal for a family.. Not far from Galway but in the middle of the country, surrounded by hens and sheeps. Lovely welcome packs.... and not only the fire starter pack: fresh eggs, water bottles in the rooms, as well as slippers.... really guesthouse like! And as we say in France, "the cherry on the cake" is a very nice and available owner.

Wow what an amazing property! ! A very spacious house with everything you could ask for with lovely scenery. All the rooms were good sizes and we really loved the kitchen/diner and conservatory areas. The children had the pool table to keep them entertained along with all the other toys provided. John was very good to communicate with, accommodating and very thoughtful. It was lovely to arrive to the house decorated for Xmas which made our stay even more special. We really enjoyed our stay at John's Country View Cottage, it was so spacious and the bedrooms and en suites felt luxurious.. The weather was mixed but the house was always warm and cosy. John was a fantastic and welcoming host and allowed us to check out half an hour later so that we could watch the World Rugby Final - so kind. We have recently returned from a family gathering in Galway and had the immense pleasure of staying in this lovely house.. Our host John (who we were fortunate to meet) was very friendly and helpful and provided us with important information regarding the local watering holes! Communication was excellent from the beginning. The house itself was wonderful and aptly suited our needs as two families with children. Plenty of toys and games, bikes, pool table, running machine with weights (for those of us who could be bothered to use them!) sauna (not used) piano (used) etc. The house was spotless and very nicely decked out; lots of bright, spacious living areas so none of us felt like we were in each other's way. Although it rained many times for our week, we did manage to use the outside space one sunny afternoon, enjoying the peace and quiet and late summer sun with a glass of wine. Both families were very happy with the accommodation and have said that if we visit Galway again then this is where we would choose to stay.

A perfect house for a family or friend holiday with exceptional wheelchair facilities and a games room to keep all ages entertained.. Situated with breathtaking country views, it is the ideal location to enjoy a meal on one of the many outdoor seating areas immersed in nature. We have absolutely loved John’s house! !! We were a group of 3 couples with 5 kids staying over the weekend. The house is extremely spacious, yet very warm and cosy, and has everything we could have wished for and more. Apart from having all of the standard amenities and utilities (that are not actually always a standard in other houses) having the pool table, dart board, tons of kids toys, board games, etc. made our stay much more special than usual. All of the bedrooms and toilets are very comfortable and spotlessly clean. John was very helpful and organised everything to the highest standard. A weekend away at the beginning of December has become our family and friends annual tradition as we celebrate my wife’s birthday by going away together. 2018 marks the best one to date thanks to John’s house!

This was a great house perfect size for the party of people we had .. The games room went down a treat with plenty to keep everyone going . The owner was very helpful and provided all we needed . Couldn’t recommend the house enough the only thing that I would say was the drive in and out To Galway city everyday took longer than expected so if I was to stay again it would be a lot closer to the city . For anyone looking a quieter holiday to relax and enjoy the lovely views this house is perfect .

A wonderful house in a perfect situation to explore the West of Ireland.. ...we would definitely book again. The photos don’t do the property justice for the amount of space available. Superb, just had minor issues with the tv set up (but the owner was fixing it very quickly) and the blinds in the rooms were not good at keeping out the light (we were travelling with 2 young kids and needed their rooms to be dark so they would sleep).. The house was just beautiful.. As a family holiday it was the perfect setting. Very close to galway city. There was sheep and lambs in the field behind. The kids thought they were in a farm. Swing set and slide with big gardens made the kids holiday. Would definately go back. So spacious and clean. Really enjoyed our week.

Absolutely loved our week away at this property. Owner John was very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. Recommended most of the places we visited whilst there. Very clean and spacious. 2 big family rooms too which was perfect for us. Would certainly recommend.

It is a great spacious modern cottage, excellent for big families.. We used it for an orchestra and a number of musicians shared this property. Everyone found room to practice and after rehearsals we enjoyed relaxing in the fitness room over a few games of pool. The host is very kind and helpful and looks after the needs of his guests and after the house. The location is good for people touring the area, it is not a scenic location, just a quiet country location. There are no shops or pubs in walking distance. A car is a necessity, but it is very close to Galway city and Co.Clare. All in all we were extremely happy with our stay there.

As a family of 2 adults and 6 kids we try and rent a house for a week every year in different locations for family holiday.. This year we thoroughly enjoyed our home in Athenry. Everything that we needed was within the house. We had power cut which affected the TV and problem with trip switch on tumble dryer, I texted the owner and both were fixed immediately. The house had stair gates and everything needed to make our holiday memorable. The house was located near to Athenry and Galway and we had some lovely days out in neighbouring villages and townlands. We couldn't fault Sykes Cottages, the house we rented, the location or the owner of the house who was just a quick text away at all times. A wonderful trip.

The cottage is exactly how it is advertised.. The rooms were all exceptionally spacious. The cottage was a little cold when we first arrived but there were very clear instructions on how to boost the heating and the wood burner was a bonus. The children enjoyed playing pool and were pleased that there was quick WiFi! I even stole a run on the treadmill tucked away as the weather was as you would expect in February. The cottage is a 5 minute drive into Athenry where there are plenty of restaurants, pubs and the town cafe was great for breakfast. A lovely get away and fantastic value for Money.

The house is very comfortable and well equipped, and plenty of room for everyone .. The owner is very helpful, quickly came and fixed something that was broken when we first moved in and kept in text touch making sure everything was ok and giving us lots of useful suggestions for places to go . We were blessed with beautiful weather and there are plenty of places to see - we had wonderful days out in Galway, Aran islands , Athlone ,and the surrounding countryside. The only drawback of this house is that you are a bit out on a limb with no shop/ pub/ eatery within easy walking distance and the places we wanted to go for family days out were generally an hour or more s drive away with usually a bit of traffic towards Galway when we went anywhere west . Would definitely visit the west of Ireland again but probably have a different area as a base just so that we could see more of it eg to explore more of Connemara.

My family of 7 stayed comfortably for three nights in Johns home.. He was extremely easy and pleasant to work with. From picking strawberries in his beautiful greenhouse, to watching the sheep in his backyard, to having breakfast on his patio... It all added to the charm of this home and small town.
