The cottage is fantastic, with everything you need for a week's stay and thoughtfully kitted out and prettily decorated. On arrival the owners, Ruth and Kate, had left a gorgeous welcome hamper, full of essentials like milk, butter and bread but also goodies like wine, chocolate, cookies and dog treats. A super surprise. The dogs were well looked after too with dog beds and bowls provided. The kitchen has everything, and even dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid and washing liquid provided.
The hot tub was amazing. Coming home tired from a day walking or cycling and then soaking in the tub was just wonderful. And there were even robes for everyone so you didn't have to walk from house to tub in your swimmers.
We enjoyed sitting on the bench in the garden in the evening, having a glass of wine, watching and listening to the birds and meeting Martha, the local friendly cat.
The bathroom is generously sized, with a rainfall shower and a large roll top bath. Could do with an extractor fan though as it gets a bit steamy after the family all use it in the morning.
There is log burner with plenty of logs and the first fire ready made if you have a chilly evening. Very snug on the big sofas with fur blankets.
The village is pretty, many lovely gardens, and it's just a few minutes to the Black Lion pub. It's good for a quick pint after a day out or does nice pub food. Friendly staff and lots of tables, but booking recommended as it is popular.
Not much walking from the front door, though we did walk to Thors Cave and back, but on the road a bit. For great walks drive up to Edale for Kinder Scout or Castleton for Mam Tor. Drive to Blackwell Mill to hire bikes and cycle along to Bakewell on the Monsal Trail. If it's really wet then Stoke with a big cinema is just half hour. Lyme House is a good day out too, lovely grounds and gardens and fraction of the price of Chatsworth.
A lovely week away, thoroughly recommend a stay here!
