July 2016
I had originally booked such a large cottage as I'm a foster carer and didn't know for certain how many rooms I would need. We only used four of the six bedrooms in the end, but we were glad of the extra space. The cottage is big enough for 12 people and would represent great value for such a large party.
It is a beautiful old thatched cottage set in a lovely garden with a BBQ and seating area, pond, ornamental fountain and another seating area outside the kitchen door. As you approach the cottage you pass some modern, wooden chalet type cottages which seem a bit close. But don't be put off as they can't be seen from Shells cottage and we didn't hear any noise from the neighbour's despite the fact most evenings meant BBQs and hot tubs.
The cottage is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need and more. They supplied tea towels, washing up liquid and dishcloths (all the things I usually forget to pack). The lounge had a lovely reading area around the corner next to huge book shelves covered in books and games. All the bedrooms were made up to a high standard and came complete with white fluffy towels.
There was a washing machine and washing line (pegs included) which meant I didn't end up taking cases of dirty clothes home.
I had preordered an online grocery order to arrive a few hours after we did which was great as it meant we didn't have to bring lots of food etc. The local takeaway also delivered pizzas, kebabs, burgers etc.
The highlight for the two girls was the hot tub. Although we were lucky enough to stay during what may be the only hot week of the summer, they still felt the need to spend as much time as they could in there. Gemma arrived soon after we did to show us how to use it and let us know she was around if we needed anything. She arrived each morning to check the hot tub, but wasn't intrusive at at.
As I mentioned, we stayed during the very warm week in July and whilst everyone else seemed to be complaining that it was too warm at night to sleep, we were fine. The thatched roof keep the cottage lovely and cool and offered respite to our poor big dog with her thick coat.
One of the bedrooms is in the ground floor. Although the cottage doesn't have level access for a wheel chair, once inside it is fairly suitable for people who can't manage stairs very well. However, there is only a toilet with hand basin downstairs so no access to a bathroom.
I would definitely recommend this cottage and we are considering a return trip with friends next year.
