Area
Located in the middle of the picturesque Shropshire countryside, this charming 700-year-old market town is at the northern eastern extremity of the world-famous Wenlock Edge. The town is a jumble of winding alleyways, black and white half timbered buildings, limestone cottages, specialty stores, and fine pubs and restaurants; it is widely recognised as the birthplace of the modern Olympic Games. Visit the fascinating Norman cathedral, the Old Gaol House, and the ruins of a beautiful priory from the 12th century. Wenlock Edge, which is around 15 miles long, rises above the town and is a great place to go walking, biking, or horseback riding because of the beautiful scenery. Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, and Ludlow are all within driving distance, as are the nine museums and Blists Hill Victorian Village at Ironbridge, the incredible Wroxeter Roman City, and the imposing Stokesay Castle.

Region
A E Housman once wrote that Shropshire was “the quietest place under the sun” and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.
