Morpeth is a historic market town in Northumberland, England. Remains from prehistory are scarce, but the earliest evidence of occupation found is a stone axe thought to be from the Neolithic period. For a piece of history, a nuclear bunker can be located underneath the Morpeth County Hall.

The photographs of the cottage did not do it full justice, Heron cottage being far nicer than we expected.. The kitchen area was extremely well-equipped and tea towels were provided, yet we had an email from Sykes saying that we had to bring our own. Also, there was a hairdryer, which wasn't mentioned, and this would have saved bringing our own. We received a very warm welcome from Jane, the owner. The gardens around the site, which is nicely secluded, were very attractive and the location is excellent for exploring many places of interest, most of which are only about 20 minutes drive away. It was unseasonably cold weather during our stay, but the cottage was well heated and cosy. Complementary use of secure wi-fi was also appreciated.
