Area
Amble, a busy little seaport at the mouth of the River Coquet, is a great starting point for adventures in Northumberland. Amble, once a hub for the boating industry, now boasts a marina, a harbour, sandy beaches, and coastal walks to the Hauxley Bird Sanctuary and the Druridge Bay Country Park. The harbour wall is lined with large fishing boats that bring in a bounty of seafood, including fish, prawns, crabs, and lobsters. On one side of the harbour, there is a fish centre that used to sell local fish but is now primarily used as a shellfish hatchery to replenish lobster and other shell fish populations. Coquet Island is a mile south of Amble and is an RSPB reserve full of terns, puffins, and eider ducks that can be seen on boat tours of the island. Beautiful beaches, charming towns like Warkworth and Alnwick, and historic properties like Wallington Hall and Cragside, all owned by the National Trust, are all within easy driving distance.

Region
Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian’s Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.
