March 2018
The Shop was a very well fitted out house, all new and clean and well decorated.. The owners had gone to a lot of trouble to put in decent equipment in the kitchen and other rooms including televisions- v important when raining and a mixed age party! There are plenty of places for groups to gather to socialise- in the down stairs kitchen area and the upstairs lounge. The bathrooms are enough for the house and well fitted out. The beds were comfy and the house is very warm. The location is pretty central and you can walk in to Scarborough in about 15 minutes or drive to Whitby, Filey etc.
We had a comfortable stay and an enjoyable holiday.
There are a couple of drawbacks:
Parking is on the street but is all disc zone parking and you have to have cards from the council to display - we struggled because we did not have enough cards for the cars as we were a large party of adults and lots of cars. This should be made clear in the description on booking - it just says street parking, but this is limited.
The WiFi is shared with the next door house and is insufficient. If you can get on it is intermittent and the signal strength is poor and keeps dropping out. Some days we couldn’t get on at all and a few of us had work to do which we couldn’t access. This is a big drawback nowadays and needs fixing.
When we arrived the owner was unhelpful and unwelcoming over picking up the key when first contacted, it took several phone calls for her to give us instructions and get us in, not what you want after a long journey in heavy traffic with an 11 week old baby.
We had a nice holiday , the owners have gone to a lot of trouble to create a comfortable, well equipped holiday house. The Shop is a great holiday house for a large mixed party.
