Skipton, known as the "Gateway to the Dales," is a little further out and gives the chance to visit an 11th century castle, old woodlands, and winding alleyways filled with excellent amenities. The town of Keighley, in the opposite direction, is home to the heritage steam line made famous by the 1970s film 'The Railway Children.' The literary paradise of Haworth is also within easy reach, where you can see the famed Bront sisters' home and the surrounding moorland that inspired their iconic writings. If you're feeling energetic, head to the Yorkshire Dales, where you'll find a plethora of walking and cycling paths set against breathtaking landscape, as well as opportunities to sample local delicacies like Wensleydale cheese and tour one of the National Park's many breweries.
