We loved The Leys at Valley View Farm. It's an exceptionally well-equipped, resourcefully renovated barn conversion with, at one end, three en-suite bedrooms downstairs and a large mezzanine bedroom / sitting room (we bagged that one), the rest of the space given to a huge kitchen / diner / sitting area complete with central wood-burner and large television, and a 'snug' where the children went in the morning before the rest of the house was astir. It was a super place in which to enjoy our gathering of daughters, partners, grandchlldren - light and spacious with every need thought about by the owner. Beach towels, activity sheets for the kids, ammonites on windowsills, a generous welcome-pack of jams and goose eggs and the like, all the cooking equipment you might want, no shortage of crockery so you didn't have to recirculate mugs or bowls all the time - there seemed nothing that Jill hadn't thought about.
The environment is lovely - there are walks from the door, there's a kind of nature reserve with slow-worms to look for, there were horses in a nearby field and cows coming up to be milked, there was a barbecue, a set of skittles, a beautiful boules piste, table football, table tennis - it was a blast. The barn itself is hung with Jill's lovely photographs, so it's a gallery as well as a holiday let, and we enjoyed that too. There's a very pretty walk down into Lyme Regis itself - much nicer than driving down. At the end of the lane there's a garage / shop for papers but for all sorts of other stuff - it's very well supplied. Cloves of garlic? Down there on the left. Coffee? Just behind you. The only thing we were underwhelmed by was having to pay Sykes Cottages £30 to transfer our booking from 2020 to 2021 - a daft customer-relations blunder which has comprehensively put us off Sykes Cottages. But we'd love to come back to The Leys at Valley View Farm even so.
