Area
Dawlish Warren, a mile-long sand beach near the mouth of the River Exe on the south Devon coastline known as the English Riviera, located a few miles north-east of the town of Dawlish. Dawlish Warren is home to a variety of stores that sell necessities, a golf course, a 55-acre nature reserve that is important to wildlife globally and serves as a roosting spot for large numbers of wading birds and wildfowl that spend the winter on the estuary. More than 450 different flowering plant species, including the endangered Warren or Sand Crocus, can be found in the Nature Reserve. In the summer, guided tours of the Reserve are offered. The beach at Dawlish Warren is a long, sandy, Blue Flag beach that spreads for miles to the Exe Estuary in one direction and Dawlish town in the other. It is surrounded by sand dunes and small lakes. A safe beach that is lifeguarded in the summer is the ideal location for having fun by the water. During the summer, there are several free outdoor events, children's performers, and breathtaking air and firework shows. The Exeter to Newton Abbot line, one of the most beautiful train routes in the nation, contains a station at Dawlish Warren. Along the English Riviera coastline, there is a wealth of nearby attractions for tourists to enjoy, such as Paignton Zoo, the Dartmouth Steam Railway, the charming fishing port of Brixham, and the long pier and promenade at Teignmouth.
