Tuckermarsh Quay River Cottage 2 is a 19th century river frontage cottage in the Devon village of Bere Alston. The cottage sleeps four people and has one double bedrooms and two singles as well as a family bathroom. Also in the cottage is a kitchen with a dining area and a sitting room with a woodburning stove. Outside is off road parking for one car and a garden leading down to a jetty. Perfect for watersports enthusiasts and nature lovers, Tuckermarsh Quay River Cottage 2 is a fabulous Devon cottage.

Over three floors. Three bedrooms: 1 x second floor double with basin and WC, 2 x single. Shower room with shower, basin and WC. Fittedkitchen with dining area. Sitting room with woodburning stove.

Area
Bere Alston is a small Devon village between the rivers Tavy and Tamar. The village was once a port shipping tin from Dartmoor. Just upstream from Bere Alston on the river Tamar is Morwhellam Quay.

Region
Devon, with its quiet country lanes, patchwork of lush green fields and sleepy villages is not to be missed. Stately home lovers will be spoiled and why not finish with a scrumptious Devonshire cream tea?

Electric storage heaters with woodburning stove in sitting room. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, TV with FreeSat, DVD. Fuel, power and starter pack for woodburning stove inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Off road parking for 1 car. Private garden and jetty. Sorry, no pets and no smoking. Shop and pub 1.5 miles. Note: The road and bridge leading to the property is narrow in places. It isn't suitable for camper vans. Road and narrow bridge not suitable for food delivery vans. Please note: the kitchen is being completely replaced in March 2021 so new pictures will be submitted then. Please note: The road leading to the property is a narrow country lane and is only used as an access for the properties on the road.

Had a lovely time at Tuckermarsh Frank the neighbour very helpful and welcoming.. The cottage is in serious need of upgrading especially downstairs and some information on the local area is a must the only leaflet we found was train timetable from 2017. Great base if you enjoy walking.

Tuckermarsh quay is the perfect getaway.. It is remote but within touching distance of a village. If you want to walk to the local village you do have to be able to manage steep hills! But it is the most beautiful peaceful place ever. The cottage itself was clean and rustic with a helpful neighbour. The ducks come to chat whilst you sit on the jetty and when the tide is high there is a steady stream of canoes and boats passing by. The road leading to the cottage is narrow but if I can manage it then anyone can, but definitely not for big camper vans. I do recommend this cottage- but if you have young children, it could be a challenge.

Beautiful cottage which was very clean and welcoming on arrival.. Great access to footpaths and private jetty to access the river, which we found best to paddle on a hour either side of high tide when the flow was slower. Loads of friendly ducks so bring some extra bread!

The cottage was exactly as described, very comfortable and generally very clean.. The beds were very comfortable. The location is uniquely wonderful. The only down side was arriving on a wet and chilly late October evening to find that the storage heating had not been turned on, meaning a cold cottage for the first night, not great with young children. We turned to the log burner only to find that the expected supply of wood was entirely lacking, just a few logs left by the previous visitor. The log store was completely empty. Once the storage heaters were given time to do their thing, the cottage was cozy and welcoming, especially with the local friendly moggy glad to spend time with us. The drive is tricky but clearly explained and fine for an experienced driver in a reasonable size car.

Wow what can I say, we have the most amazing stay at tuckermarsh cottage, everything about it is beautiful including the views. Everything you need is there. The next door neighbour Frank was very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our evenings eating tea on the decking admiring the gorgeous views. The cottage is beautifully layed out and very very clean, it made us feel very homely. I have read on other reviews problems regarding the access to the cottage which was not a issue what so ever for us and we have a Vaxuhall zafira 7 seater and had no problems. I would 100% recommended tuckermarsh to anybody you will not be dissapointed, thank you for making our holiday so amazing x

We have a Nissan Qashqai, negotiated the bridge ok, although there was a huge sigh of relief when round safely! A larger car would probably not be a good idea! Having said that, everything about this holiday was amazing. Lovely neighbours either side, beautiful scenery, super comfortable beds and everything supplied for our needs in the cottage. I've seen reviews about the shower...no problem whatsoever, lovely hot water whenever needed. We didn't have TV for a couple of days, which wasn't a problem, but we did get in touch with Lynn, who came down straight away. Thank you again, Lynn. You were so kind. No Wi-Fi in the house, but did get a signal just outside the door. My son went on a few walks from the cottage, but it wasn't suitable for my rubbish knees, although I did manage to get into the garden and sit by the river with the help of my walking poles.Be aware the steps to the garden are quite steep, so not suitable for anyone with mobility problems. The holiday highlights were visits to Castle Drogo, Fingle Bridge, Hexworthy Bridge and the nearby St Raphael's Church. Two Bridges for the best cream tea in Devon and a visit to Burgh Island is a must, although I was disappointed the tide was out , so no trip with the Sea Tractor (as featured in Poirot!) I cannot praise the Mary Tavy Inn enough. We went there twice for good food at a reasonable price and a very warm welcome. Incredible Dartmoor views in the garden. Another favourite is the Pannier Market in Tavistock where I buy my special glass pendants . A week is never long enough in this beautiful area!

Peace and quiet,the only fly in the ointment was a selfish neighbour parking in the turning circle,the lane was very narrow and a steep drop down to one side,as it had been raining it was very slippery to reverse back as the parking place is a distance away.. It is not Skyes Cottages fault but beware as it could be a problem. R&R Reading

This is a fabulous cottage in a wonderful location.. Beautifully clean, comfortable and well equipped. The road down is not for the faint hearted but you soon get used to it. We negotiated the bridge easily on the way down in a Kia Sportage but my husband had to see me across on the way back, due to the slight incline, as i couldnt see over the bonnet even with the seat up high. It was fine though, and it didnt stop us going out every day. There are plenty of passing places but we only met cars a couple of times. There is a good mobile phone connection and a lovely neighbour (Frank). I would highly recommend this cottage.

WOW. What an absolutely lovely cottage in the most spectacular and beautiful setting. The garden goes all the way down to the rivers edge where you can enjoy watching some amazing nature. Ignore the other negative comments about the access. I drive a mondeo Estate and had no issues with crossing the bridge. The cottage has everything a family needs to spend a week there and there is nothing wrong at all with the shower. The walks from the cottage are great. The trip on the train over to Calstock is good and we had a meal in the Tamar Inn which was lovely. Morwellham Quay just a short drive away is a must. Frank next door at number 1 is a lovely bloke and very helpful. He was there to greet us and even helped unloading our car. He gave us loads of info as to where and what to visit. This is a proper break away from the hussle and bustle of everyday life and having no WiFi meant we actually spoke to each other as a family instead of having our head buried in gadgets all the time. All in all you must come and stay at this beautiful cottage.

WOW! What can I say, the cottage was even better than we were expecting.. It was beautiful and in such a beautiful and peaceful setting. Anyone who likes walking would be in their elements. Direct from the cottage there are some lovely walks for all ages and abilities. A train ride from Bere Alston across to Calstock is a must. We had a lovely evening and meal in the Tamar Inn. A trip just down the road to Morwellham Quay is also a must. We will be going back!

We had an amazing holiday at Tuckermarsh Quay.. The location has to be one of the most magical places we have ever stayed. The sunsets were just stunning, and it's lovely to be able to eat at the river front on the deck. The cottage itself was clean and tidy with very comfortable beds. Would definitely stay here again!

Lovely cottage in a remote location, very quiet, pretty garden and lovely jetty to admire the countryside and river.. Lane to cottage extremely narrow and tight turn on small wooden bridge would be impossible for large cars.

The only negative of the whole stay is that the hot water is not hot! The shower is wonderful but the water from the taps wasn't hot, only tepid, even though we left the immersion heater on. Other than that it was a beautiful week and we loved it.

The cottage had been cleaned to a high standard and was the best equipped cottage we have ever stayed in.. We were made aware in the information given before booking of the narrow road to the cottage and the bridge that needed to be crossed. A lovely place to stay. Good neighbours. Very pleased.

I usually begin reviews with the positives but I'm going to break with tradition here, because the major issue with this cottage is the access. The cottage is reached down a mile long lane which is barely a car's width in some places, although there are some small passing places. The worst bit, though is when you have almost reached the parking area. Before this is a narrow and rather rickety 'sleeper' bridge, with a sharp right turn off it. Local people just shrugged their shoulders when we mentioned we found the access difficult, but it was quite telling that many had cars with a few scrapes and dents. We were told, with some glee, that it wasn't unknown for people to come off the bridge and end up in the stream beneath. We didn't actually think this was too funny. The cottage itself is OK. It's an ex miner's cottage so is small and atmospheric. There is a washing machine but no dishwasher, and no WiFi access. The woodburning stove is a welcome feature.The beds are comfortable. The shower is rather feeble, and the drainage from it is not good.The garden is delightful and leads down to the river Tamar. One review I read said there was a pub/restaurant about a mile away, which may be so, but meant negotiating the bridge and lane again, so we gave this a miss. You can access the pub on foot but it's a steep upward climb on a stony track. '

Lovely, well equipped cottage in amazing location with wonderful views over the river into Cornwall. Especially enjoyed the complementary wine on the riverside deck watching the swan and baby cygnets. Beware the tortuous lane and sleeper bridge to the cottage, especially if you have a large car!

Good place to relax and also within easy reach of many attractions.. Very quiet with views over the river.

This was a lovely cosy cottage, in a surprisingly remote situation. The facilities were good and it was warm during cold weather. The best bits were the numerous walks from the door through woods and fields and along the river (we didn't use our car), and the little train over the river with great walks the other side. Everyone was helpful. The worst bit was the extremely narrow, rough and steep access road!
