Area
The Peak District village of Castleton is situated at the top of the Hope Valley, on the doorstep of some great walking country. It boasts the Norman Peverill Castle Keep, is world-famous for its visitor caves and the beautiful semi precious stone Blue John which is only found and mined here. There is an array of gift shops, food pubs and a Visitor Centre. Nearby are the villages of Edale, Hope and Hathersage. Enjoy a day out at Alton Towers or visit the impressive Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall.

The ultimate in “year-round” appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

The cottage was warm, comfortable and generally well-equipped.. The parking, and getting cars in and out was a little awkward, as it is in a small courtyard shared with another cottage. Our neighbours eventually decided to park elsewhere! That courtyard is also the only outdoor space for the cottage. The location (Castleton) is very attractive, and has good pubs, restaurants, tearooms etc., although facilities to buy groceries for self catering are quite limited. However, despite those few reservations, we would certainly visit again.
