The Byre is situated on a narrow quit country lane near the village of Hollington and is a very nice barn convertion adjacent to the owners cottage. Brian & Julie have done a great job renovating the area, along with other members of their family, and continue to make improvements, which are in no way intrusive to any "rentees" such as us. The cottge as lovely views of the countryside with sheep grazing in the adjacent field and a nosey male Alpaca looking in from over a far fence of the animal rescue farm next door. The owners of the rescue farm welcome you to visit and see their animals.
Brian & Julie are wonderful, friendly and helpful hosts and even gave freshly layed eggs and newly picked raspberries and also leave some welcome goodies for arrivee's.
The cottage is immaculate, very clean, finished to a high standard. While the reception for mobile phones is not very good, a downside dependent on your view point, it is the norm for these type of areas, the wi-fi is great.
The cottage is an excellent base for exploring the area with Carsington Water well worth a day out.
The Red Lion in Hollington does very nice food and drink at reasonable prices while for something more adventurous but more expensive try the Saracens Head in the village of Shirley.
Shirley is about an hours slow walk from The Byre.
This type of review is supposed to give the con's as well as the pro's but the only negative thing I can see is that when we next decide to visit the Peak district The Byre will be booked solid, so I am cutting our own throats with this review, BUT, it is that good.
