Attractive tiny market town with a pleasant country ambiance that has many stores, restaurants, and bars as well as farmers' markets.Located in the heart of the town is a 17th-century market hall, as well as a modern swimming pool and fitness centre. Bakewell is located in the Peak District National Park, which makes it a perfect starting point for exploring the area's stunning scenery. Alton Towers, the finest theme park in the United Kingdom, is a short drive away, as are the rocky Dark Peak and the softer limestone White Peak. In addition to Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, and Hardwick Hall, there are also the spectacular caverns in adjacent Castleton and the burial place of Little John in Hathersage, which are well worth a visit. Visit the Edwardian Opera House in Buxton, which was created by Frank Matcham, the same architect who worked on the London Palladium.
