This was our second visit to the cottage numbered 73 Ravensdale.. The cottage is in a lovely secluded part of the Peak District but within a short drive to pleasant villages or towns and within walking distance to lovely countryside. Nearby is the pleasant village of Ashford-in-the-Water, with its attractive cottages, a quaint Sheepwash Bridge and amidst wonderful rolling countryside that contain a range of walking routes. Nearer still is the magnificent Monsal Viaduct, once carrying trains from Buxton to Bakewell, and now part of the Monsal Trail, a traffic-free cycling route, also a popular route for hikers. Bakewell has an interesting outdoor market every Monday, and a variety of interesting shops, including a bakers selling the famous Bakewell Tarts, and delicious vegetarian Homity Pies!
Buxton has some wonderful buildings, including the Opera House and the recently renovated Crescent, There is a delightful Country Park walk that starts in the centre of the town and includes a woodland, open countryside and super views of Buxton.
The cottage is most pleasant and is in a perfect location to relax and recharge your batteries. Well furnished and comfortable lounge and bedroom, a small but well equipped kitchen, and a bathroom with a good shower facility, Best of all is the wood burning stove, including a free supply of logs and kindling, which makes a perfect evening after a day's hiking or cycling, particularly after a rainy and cold day.
