73 Ravensdale Cottage is absolutely delightful, set in the hamlet of Ravensdale on the outskirts of Cressbrook, near Tideswell and can sleep two people. It has a double bedroom with a Smart TV and an en-suite bathroom, a kitchen and a sitting room with a dining area and a woodburning stove. Outside there is off-road parking for one car and rear, split-level patio with furniture, a barbecue and an external WC. WiFi, fuel, power, bed linen and towels are all included in the price. No pets and no smoking. 73 Ravensdale Cottage is a wonderful holiday base. Note: The external WC is not available in winter. Note: There is narrow, single-lane access to the home. Note: The stairs to the first floor are steep and narrow, with a twist at the bottom, making the lower treads triangular in shape; there is a handrail, but care does need to be taken when going up and down the stairs. Note: Rear garden has 6 steps and there are 3 original stone steps to access the cottage from the front. Note: Adult-only.

Area
Cressbrook is a village on the River Wye, home to a mill built in the 18th century by Richard Arkwright. A footpath upstream of Cressbrook Mill leads to Water-cum-Jolly, a river gorge with limestone cliffs ideal for walking and rock climbing. Cressbrook is on the Monsal Cycle Trail and there is also a good pub in the nearby village of Litton, which serves food. Tideswell, Bakewell and the Spa town of Buxton are all within easy reach.

The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers and wooded dales.

Solid fuel heating provided by the owners next door (guests have individually controlled radiators in the cottage) with woodburning stove. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, 2 x TVs with FreeSat (one Smart TV), DVD, WiFi, selection of books and games. Fuel, power and starter pack for stove inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Off road parking for 1 car at the rear of the property. Rear, split-level patio with furniture, BBQ and external WC (not available in winter). Sorry, no pets and no smoking. Shop and pub 2 miles. Note: Rear garden has 6 steps and there are 3 original stone steps to access the cottage from the front. Note: The stairs to the first floor are steep and narrow, with a twist at the bottom, making the lower treads triangular in shape. This was our second visit to the cottage numbered 73 Ravensdale.. The cottage is in a lovely secluded part of the Peak District but within a short drive to pleasant villages or towns and within walking distance to lovely countryside. Nearby is the pleasant village of Ashford-in-the-Water, with its attractive cottages, a quaint Sheepwash Bridge and amidst wonderful rolling countryside that contain a range of walking routes. Nearer still is the magnificent Monsal Viaduct, once carrying trains from Buxton to Bakewell, and now part of the Monsal Trail, a traffic-free cycling route, also a popular route for hikers. Bakewell has an interesting outdoor market every Monday, and a variety of interesting shops, including a bakers selling the famous Bakewell Tarts, and delicious vegetarian Homity Pies! Buxton has some wonderful buildings, including the Opera House and the recently renovated Crescent, There is a delightful Country Park walk that starts in the centre of the town and includes a woodland, open countryside and super views of Buxton. The cottage is most pleasant and is in a perfect location to relax and recharge your batteries. Well furnished and comfortable lounge and bedroom, a small but well equipped kitchen, and a bathroom with a good shower facility, Best of all is the wood burning stove, including a free supply of logs and kindling, which makes a perfect evening after a day's hiking or cycling, particularly after a rainy and cold day.

Amazing location it's quiet, secluded,peaceful and relaxing.. Is in the middle of nowhere which was perfect and just what I was looking for. My partner and I went for a walk around the nature reserve which is just through the gate at the end of all the cottages. Very muddy but who minds mud when your outside in the fresh air. Few little villages within driving and walking distance. We went to the Red Lion in Litton which we drove to but you can walk. We had all the utensils and cooking equipment needed for our short weekend break, but would be ok for longer. There is a cupboard with games, DVDs and other bits and pieces in and also maps for walks in the area. Theres is a log fire in the living room which is nice but takes a while to get going and heat up to burn a log, would recommend getting extra kindling to get it going. Thanks for a great stay and look forward to visiting again. Only down side we had was the bed was a little uncomfortable and my partner ended up with back,neck and shoulder pain. But I do understand that the bed is personal preference and others may find it really comfortable.

The attractive cottage is situated in a lovely wooded valley, close to a stream and in a quiet, fairly remote area.. From the cottage there are very good footpaths that lead to the wonderful countryside and pleasant villages. It is also a short distance to the beautiful Monsal Head with its viaduct which is now part of the Monsal Trail, which is used for cycling. horse riding and hiking. Other off road cycle routes nearby are the High Peak and Tissington Trails. Bakewell and Buxton are both within a short drive, and are well worth visiting. The cottage was most comfortable and is well furnished, the log fire was a super extra, particularly after cold or damp weather conditions. The free bag of logs was also much appreciated, as were the fire lighters and clear instructions for a novice on how to set about starting a log fire. Good size lounge and well furnished with table, chairs and sofa,comfortable bedroom and spacious bathroom with a super shower. Kitchen quite small but well equipped , as it was with an excellent cooker, toaster and microwave. Did not really use the garden as we had rather dampish weather which is to be expected in November! A most pleasant stay and would certainly like to return.

The cottage is perfectly situated within Cressbrook Dale with many walking opportunities straight from the front door.. The living accommodation is quite small but it has everything you need for a week’s stay including a well equipped kitchen if you want to cook and decent broadband. The owners live next door and were very helpful - checking we had everything we needed. Eating breakfast on the patio every morning listening to the birdsong echoing in the valley was delightful. We also saw peregrines over the cliffs above and, at dusk, bats were flitting amongst the trees - magical.

A very cozy and comfortable cottage, in an absolutely quiet location surrounded by woods and cliffs.. Absolutely no car traffic or other civilization noises. You can hear the most diverse birds, the sound of the forest and otherwise enjoy the silence. An ideal place to relax. Many hikes in the immediate vicinity are possible, or a leisurely bike tour on the Monsal Trail (a former railway line converted into a cycle and hiking trail). Special thanks to the very friendly and helpful landlords John and Debra. We would like to come back again.

The peace and quiet is phenomenal and the cottage is lovely.. Owners live next door and were very friendly and helpful. Area great for wallking and bird watching (ravens and peregrines nesting nearby). Also near many historic properties in the area, including Chatsworth. Only word of caution is that the road to the cottage is single track (no passing places) with a drop on one side, which some drivers may find a bit daunting.

The history and location of this cottage is fantastic, one feels as though you are traveling back in time,.. When entering Ravensdale cottages lane, you imagine the old mill workers traveling through. The 200 yr old cottage / cottages are unspoilt, full of character, inside is the modern facilities to help the occiputs to have a clean and safe stay. Would highly recommend the cottage. The area surrounding Ravensdale is full of places to walk, Monsal Head being a must, the views are fantastic. Monsal trail well worth a visit. We will certainly be returning.

We rented 73 Ravensdale Cottage for the Christmas period; we did the same last year and have also stayed at the cottage in the warmer months. I will admit that selfishly I would rather keep it to myself but that just wouldn't be right. The lovely, cottage owners who live next door with their two moggies Picasso and Yanto, have a knack of ensuring that all needs are met without making you feel that they are intruding. The cottage itself is awesome. No cell phone reception but great internet access which for us is exactly what we want. Open fire, Smart TV, corner bath, no through road. Cosy just does not cover it. Ravensdale is located on a live walking route which is ideal for us. We would either go out for a good 10 miler or we would satellite out to local villages and pubs. Bring a head torch if you visit in the winter months. If you like to get away from the rat race on occasion and like a bit of walking with a cosy base to come back to then have a look at Ravensdale. Oh and the only negative is that we cannot live there permanently.

The cottage was in an excellent location for walkers as you could step out the door and go in any direction to pick up a footpath. We were close to the Monsal Trail and again this proximity meant we hardly needed to use the car all week, except for food shopping and a trip to Chatsworth House we didn't. The Owner was very welcoming and informative about the cottage explaining where everything was and also the history. And most of all it was quiet and peaceful - so very relaxing.
