House in Cumbria in Windermere, Cumbria
Less than 2 miles from the edge of Lake Windermere, this home sits in a peaceful, rural location yet is close to the hustle and bustle of lakeside towns. Head out for a walk and hop on the well trodden Dales Way. Running for 80 miles, the trail ends in Bowness on Windermere (2 miles), so you can walk into the town with ease. From here, hop on a cruise and explore England s largest lake. If you fancy making a splash and doing the hard work yourselves, hire boats and canoes and adventure the day away. Stay dry and visit The World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness on Windermere or take to the green and hit some holes in one at the Windermere Golf Club over the road from your door. Climb up the slate steps, wipe muddy boots on the mat and head inside to make yourselves at home in this house built in 1900 by William Long. Fantastic features including many period details in the Arts and Crafts style, as well as a gong, Grandfather clock and a telephone table, greet you in the hall before you make your way into the open plan living space. Flick the kettle on in the kitchen and find all you need to prepare meals including an electric cooker (oven and hob), dishwasher, microwave, fridge, toaster and kettle. The utility room has a washing machine and leads through to the WC and shower room. Lined with books, grab a tale from the lounge and curl up for some peace and quiet. Dine in style at the table and raise a glass to your chef before heading to bed. Sitting on the ground floor, The Servant s Hall is the first of three bedrooms. Twin beds, garden views and a chaise longue make this room a delight to rest your head in. Climb stairs to the first floor where you will first find the pretty twin with views of Langdale Pikes and lots of storage, a few more steps lead to the spacious double with en suite WC, the family bathroom with shower over the bath, and the inviting second lounge: The Long Room . The lounge has a lovely window seat and is full of period charm. Perfect for family film nights, this room has a TV/DVD and a pair of comfortable sofas on which to relax. Stay warm by the wood burner effect electric fire and spend competitive nights here challenging fellow guests to a board game or round of cards. Great for summer days and evenings, take a mug of something warm or a glass of something cold outside and enjoy the fantastic space on offer. The front lawn belongs to the adjoining property so access is not permitted, instead, explore the woodland garden and hunt out the stone cairn.
