The Oaks is a detached country house situated in the village of Bowness-on-Windermere in Cumbria. Hosting 11 bedrooms, this property can sleep up to 25 people. Area
Providing a range of amenities, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, the twin towns of Bowness and Windermere have an enduring appeal for many visitors to the Lake District. Boat trips are available from Bowness to Ambleside, as well as to the Lakeside Aquarium and Beatrix Potter's 'Hill Top House' at Sawrey. Nearby is Grizedale Forest Park which offers good walks, mountain biking and the 'Go Ape' adventure playground. There are also a variety of water sports available across the many beaches.

We visited he lakes again this year and decided to book The Oaks as so many of the family wanted to come along. The house suited us perfectly. The sauna and hot tubs were utilised every day and with such a central location there was something for all ages within a short walking distance. We had family from 80 years old to 18 months and the house was amazing. The floor plans on the website helped us plan before we arrived and Lorna was so much help. Will look to book again next year!

What a wonderful place! We had very high expectations from the pictures, and it exceeded them! We were a family group of 19 people aged from 18 months to 80, and every single one of us loved the place. Most rooms are en suite so a lot of the kids even had their own which delighted them. It felt like there could have been double our numbers and still not feel in the least bit crowded. All rooms were spotlessly clean and well made up with quality towels and bedding. The kitchen had at least 2 of everything and 3 or 4 giant fridges and dishwashers! There were more than enough of all glasses and crockery not to be waiting on the dishwasher for each meal, and plenty of plastic glasses for outside and the hot tubs, too. The pair of hot tubs were wonderful and having two meant we could designate one to the kids to splash about in while we quietly sipped our bubbles in ours. There were board games in one of the many lounges, but our kids spent most of their time exploring the grounds outside and loving having some freedom while we could keep an eye out from the patio / hot tubs / lounges. We had a wonderful series of birthday meals at the long tables in the conservatory looking out at the view, which was just off the kitchen making things really easy to serve and clear. A point to note, which I believe they are now looking into resolving: The accessible room is marvellous however our 80-year-old birthday girl found the bed just too high to get in and out of during the night herself, luxurious as it was. She’s probably not much more than 5 foot tall and we’ve had the same problem in hotels, but just to be aware to check if they’ve found a resolution, if this might be an issue. My only other piece of advice is to ask for a map of the bedrooms before you go! The house really is huge and I found myself walking in circles trying to make sure I allocated the right children near the right parents in the right rooms before everyone arrived - more stressful than you might think haha! Lorna was our point of contact and couldn’t have been more helpful both before and during our stay. We all have nothing but praise for the place and just can’t wait to find another occasion to return! Thank you Lorna and The Oaks!

Great house for a large family. We have been to the lakes manner times and this house suited us the best! Fabulous kitchen which became the hub of the house, not forgetting the hot tubs, sauna, fabulous views, the lake within walking distance, excellent sound system, movie TVs, loads of sitting room areas and of course the dining table to seat more than 25 people. We will definitely be returning to the lakes in 2020! Thank you Lorna for your hospitality, quick response to questions & humour. See you next year!

This place is absolutely amazing! Lots of space for kids to run and explore, waking up and looking out your windows to the views is amazing, so relaxing and peaceful, beds are so comfy had a greats night sleep every night!, the hot tubs are excellent! Only thing I would recommend is maybe insect/wasp repellent as there was lots of wasps in the house I could not fault anything! Would definitely recommend and stay again Kind regards The Newberrys

This place is amazing, the pictures don’t do it justice and the views from the hot tub are amazing! You are undisturbed at the back of the house with a massive garden to enjoy. We were a group of 25 and everyone is raving about it still. If you are a large group it’s perfect, theres many living areas so if you need a quiet moment you’ve got plenty places to pick from. Movie nights there’s enough couches for all. The dining table and the table outside which seats everyone is such a good touch, especially the outside one for the good weather we had. It’s so close to the town, you can walk it if you’re fit enough. Great location, lovely bars and restaurants all around and the house down to the finest detail is perfect!

Fabulous house and location which far exceeded expectations and certainly had the wow factor! Plenty of room for our guests and need to especially mention the catering team who made and served a meal for us which made it a special occasion.

The Oaks is a beautiful house for a holiday stay. With lovely clean rooms, a huge kitchen central to the house, plenty of lounge areas to relax and hot tubs and sauna for a touch of luxury this accommodation really is special. Despite its massive size, the house is immaculately maintained - with decor that mixes the modern with the traditional. Our family had a fantastic week in honour of my late wife, who booked and organised this trip for us. What a great call she made. Will be definitely looking to book The Oaks again next year should we decide to return to Bowness for another get together.

The house was wonderful and the staff very helpful.. Location ideal with easy taxi rides th Bowness saving the trouble of trying to park. Hot tubs and sauna an added bonus . Very comfort able for a large group. I would give it 5 stars.

Great weekend celebrating 50th birthday, an amazing time had by all. Could not fault the house, very clean, so much space and plenty of things to do (hot tubs and sauna). Would definitely recommend and we cannot wait to go back!

The Oaks is an amazing house, extremely well equipped for the amount of guests, very clean and comfortable.. We all enjoyed the hot tubs (even in the rain) and sauna. Would definitely return.

This is a fantastic house which is well appointed and in a beautiful and quiet location, yet within easy reach of Bowness.. We would recommend staying here to anybody and everybody. This was our annual family gathering, 6 Grandparents, 10 Parents and 8 grand children under the age of 4. The house provide plenty of space for us all to enjoy the weekend, with enough space for the children to play, lounge areas to get away from the chaos! and relax. The kitchen is excellent and very well appointed, as our the bedrooms and bathrooms. Our only compliant would be the lack of a plan of the accommodation on the Sykes website which makes it difficult to allocate rooms and bed configurations required. Other websites do this and we find it invaluable when deciding if a house is suitable for our purposes before booking. This was overcome by the very helpful on site team who should be complimented for their attention to detail. Also it would be useful; if Sykes titled photographs so you can understand which rooms are which.

We have been to many holiday homes.. The Oaks is the best which we stayed. Very high standards..5 star facilities..you got everything What you need..very spacious rooms with all facilities...including Kitchen and bathrooms..Sauna and hot tubs give you added pleasure...clean,tidy and hygienic...beautiful views..very safe...Jo and Russell were very helpful and wonderful people..definitely on our return list.

This was the most beautiful house, it was well appointed and had everyone's needs taken care off.. We were lucky enough to have the best weather in years and made good use off the Hot tubs and grounds,but I am sure we would have been just as happy to use indoors equally as well if the weather was poor. Fabulous kitchen and just soooooo much space, plenty of cloakroom facilities downstairs . A thoroughly well thought out house and an ideal way to spend a week celebrating my 60th with family and friends . Definitely on my return list.

Just returned from our stay at this beautiful country house. Perfect location, fabulous hosts, absolutely everything in place to ensure a relaxing chilled break. Views stunning, rooms amazing, everything has been carefully thought out. We have stayed in beautiful locations worldwide, this was by far and away the best. We will be back.

Fab-u-lous is the only word to describe this property.. The standard of accommodation is first class from the bedrooms to the lounges to the wonderful kitchen- even the artwork has been carefully chosen to enhance the rooms. It has a real "wow" factor which begins in the wonderful entrance hall and the dining room is superb. We were a party of 25 ranging in ages from 12 to 82 celebrating a 60th birthday. The house met all our needs having a large number of ensuite rooms and disabled facilities. One of the requirements for our trip was the ability for everyone to sit down together and have a celebratory meal- the dining room was beautiful and has a view to die for. The hot tubs and sauna were very popular and towels were provided for everyone to use. We had snow which made the experience even more magical and on two nights had clear skies which meant we could see hundreds of stars in the sky and not a sound could be heard. Plenty of room for everyone and we would certainly like to visit again!!

We had a party of 18 family and close friends and the house was excellent in all aspects.. The owners could not do enough to make our stay memorable and would definitely go back. Well done for creating a comfortable house where you never seem to be getting on top of each other unless you wanted to.
