The charming community of Hawkshead still possesses the charm and personality that made it so appealing to its most well-known residents, Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth. Amongst the whitewashed 17th century homes, visitors can explore the abundance of little passageways, thoroughfares, archways, and courtyards. In addition to the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which hosts an annual changing display of the renowned author's pictures and stories, the village is home to a number of charming inns, teashops, guest houses, and gift shops. You may visit the location where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form and even see the desk into which he wrote his name as a young child by visiting the Old Grammar School, which is still standing today. William Wordsworth is another well-known Hawkshead admirer. Ten miles away, at Newby Bridge, you may find places to visit including the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, which run daily between Ambleside, Bowness, and Lakeside. Hawkshead is in a prime location all year round, with beautiful scenery and a wealth of attractions conveniently close by.
