Area Broughton-in-Furness, a settlement that has been around since the 11th century and is now just six miles from Coniston Water, is located in the southwest corner of the Lake District. There are numerous things to see and do in this area, including a charming cobblestone square with a magnificent horse chestnut tree and Georgian-style buildings surrounding it. You can easily access the stunning natural landscapes of the Duddon Valley and the more secluded fells of the Lake District from this settlement, making it an excellent home base for a walking or climbing vacation. William Wordsworth and one of Britain's greatest 20th-century poets, Norman Nicholson, both made this region famous via their writing and poetry. Brother of the Bront sisters and author Branwell Bront spent some time in the village. In close proximity is Foxfield, from which you may board the Furness Railway for a scenic journey along the west coast of Cumbria. This picturesque town, located in the heart of the Lake District and not far from the coast, is an excellent jumping-off point from which to discover the region's many enchanted lakes, mountains, and moorland.
Region Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
