Area Cockermouth, a quaint country market town just 13 miles from Keswick, may be found in the Lake District's northwestern corner, an unexplored and unspoiled location. Wordsworth's Georgian family home, located on the main street, is today a major visitor attraction held by the National Trust due to the town's literary and historical significance as the birthplace of both Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame). Cockermouth has a nice selection of stores, pubs, and restaurants, but the real draw is the stunning natural beauty and excellent hiking around the northern lakes, such as Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water, and Derwent Water.
Region Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
