We had a wonderful holiday in Blacksmiths Cottage.. The cottage was extremely clean and very cosy. We had everything we needed, and the owners of the cottage, who live next door, made sure we knew that if we needed any assistance, they were on hand to help. The owners weren’t at all intrusive though - we saw them on the day we arrived and the day we left. They are very friendly and approachable.
Appleby is a lovely town, with a historic church which is well worth a visit. There are local shops for anything you need, including a Spar and a Co-op. The local chip shop is very good, as is the local bakery.
Lowther Castle is well worth a visit (about half an hour away), and the waterfall at Rutter Force is beautiful.
If you have a dog, there is a great circular walk down by the river Eden. We even spotted a couple of red squirrels (which we don’t have in Scotland).
All in all, a perfect cottage and a great wee holiday. We would highly recommend it.
