There is a qualification regarding the state of the property which prevents a 5 star review. But generally positive. The cottage is in a great place, quiet but very close to the town including a great butchers a hundred yards away. Unloading was a bit of a challenge, but don’t panic and the road up to the cottage is manoeuvrable. The parking permit was fine for the car park a couple of minutes walk away, though it gets very busy during the day - but this was in busy July and Ambleside was very busy despite the pandemic restrictions. The cottage is well equipped, comfortable bedrooms and good bathrooms. A nice selection of games and videos.
Negatives? It was clear that the regular cleaning had been done adequately, although some of the kitchen implements and glasses had not been washed up properly. Bathrooms were clean. But the place is unloved (maybe because the owner does not stay, but that's just a guess). It could do with a decent spring clean. For example light switches had been wiped, but there was months of dust on top of them. Carpets in less accessible places hadn’t been hoovered for ages, and the insides of the windows had general muck and fly dirt. The garden was tatty - just an hour's tidying up was all it needed. All this is a shame. I recommend getting someone to do a good half day's general clean. Then it would be 5 stars for sure.
