Daw Bank in the lovely Langdale Valley Introduction Daw Bank is a charming Lakeland stone end terrace cottage, dating back to the 1890s and lying in the heart of Chapel Stile, in the magnificent Great Langdale Valley. This cosy cottage comfortably sleeps 6 people in 3 double bedrooms and has been beautifully renovated with the addition of double glazing, central heating and the installation of a welcoming wood burning stove. Chapel Stile is the main village in Great Langdale and has a nearby pub and a well stocked Co op store which is open 7 days a week 9 5. The Britannia and Eltermere Inns, in nearby Elterwater are also good for lunch and dinner. The nearby Langdale timeshare also offers restaurant facilities to non residents. There are stunning walks in all directions straight from the cottage. To the west there is a beautiful valley walk towards the head of Great Langdale and several options for refreshments including Lanty Slees / Stickle Barn, New Dungeon Ghyll or Old Dungeon Ghyll pubs. Heading east the lovely valley path extends to the nearby village of Elterwater and on to Skelwith Force water fall and Chesters Cafe by the river which serves good coffee, cake and a vegan menu. More challenging fell walks from the cottage include Loughrigg Fell, Silver How or a walk over into Little Langdale to Slaters bridge as well as the iconic Langdale Fells for the more serious fell walkers, including the magnificent Bow Fell, one of just six Lakeland peaks over 900m. Ambleside is 4.5 miles away, where you can visit the interesting shops, dine out and go to the cinema. In summer you can book a carriage down to Waterhead where are variety of lake cruises are available. The charming village of Grasmere is just 3 miles from the cottage, with another great selection of cafes, shops, pubs and restaurants. There is a picturesque walk round the lake from Grasmere where you can hire rowing boats in season. Please note, we do not allow pets at Daw Bank. Access The cottage is accessed by 2 stone steps into the hall with space for your coats and boots and a downstairs WC. The rest of the ground floor is a fantastic L shaped open plan lounge/kitchen/diner, which will be at the heart of your stay here. The living room has 2 large comfortable sofas well positioned around the cosy wood burner, perfect for relaxed evenings in. For entertainment there's a TV with Freesat, DVD and Xbox 360. There is a large wooden dining table which is ideal for social dining and the kitchen is well equipped with an electric oven, grill and hob, handy microwave, fridge/freezer, washer drier and dishwasher. There is also a back door off the kitchen with direct access into the secure garden and a BBQ for outdoor cooking. We provide a well stocked set of maps, guide books and information on local activities and amenities in the bookcase. Upstairs all the bedrooms are thoughtfully furnished with ample storage and comfortable beds . On the first floor to there is a king sized double room to the front and a twin to the rear as well as the large family bathroom. The king size room has a chest of drawers for storage and beautiful views over the village to the fells beyond. The wooden bed is perfectly positioned opposite the window. The cosy twin room is just as lovely, with two wooden single beds, chest of drawers and wardrobe. As well as a WC, the large family bathroom has a shower over the bath meaning all tastes are catered for, whether you prefer a soak in the bath or an invigorating shower and there s always plenty of hot water! Up another flight of stairs to the second floor and the master bedroom, a spacious king size room with a vaulted ceiling and stunning views from its dormer windows front and back. As well as the feature wooden bed, in here you'll find a chest of drawers and wardrobe for storage as well as two cosy armchairs. There's also a handy WC and large sink adjacent to this top floor bedroom. Outside this charming cottage is a lovely garden to the rear. With an area of lawn and a raised slate patio (children should not be left unsupervised due to the different levels here) with outdoor furniture, it's a great spot for some al fresco dining, a BBQ or for just gazing out at your beautiful surroundings. Please note, the neighbouring properties have a right of access through the garden, but use of the garden is private for its occupants. Parking can usually be found on the lane outside the cottage and further roadside parking can be found in the village. There is no dedicated parking for any of the cottages in the row, despite notices to the contrary! You can park anywhere on the row, but please be considerate of the neighbours.
