Five Elements barn is, clearly, a barn conversion on the same site as the owner's property but it is quiet and peaceful and if you happen to bump into them, they are a lovely couple and extremely helpful.
The property is upside down as is common in Cornwall: bedrooms downstairs and living upstairs.
Downstairs has two large single bedrooms and a family bathroom. There is also a washing machine, dryer and a freezer unit.
The stairs are immediately in front of you when you open the front door and they lead up and into a small kitchen area which is fully equipped. There is a small dining table and chairs for 4 and a small living area.
Off the kitchen is a small shower / toilet and a double bedroom.
If you are used to larger rooms in your own home, this all feels small when you first enter but it quickly becomes apparent that it's all you need for a holiday and is perfectly adequate for 4 or 5 people.
Double bedroom has little room to change and there's just enough room to walk around the bed. There is a good sized chest of drawers and an open unit for hanging clothes.
Most importantly here is that I got a good night's sleep. I don't care about much else as long as it is clean and tidy which it was. If the bed is comfortable and I wake up feeling I've had a good sleep, I'm happy with the accommodation.
Inside there is everthing you need with the exception of a dishwasher.
Wifi is not fast but stable and enough for most things. I was able to remote into servers I manage and pick up all emails.
Outside, there is a super area for relaxing, BBQ'ing, dining and roasting marshmellows. Our kids loved it and used it daily.
There is nothing within walking distance that I was aware of. We had to jump in the car to grab food and drinks but the drive is short and easy.
There are a couple of pubs close by: The Miner's Arms in Mithian and The Chiverton Arms at Chiverton Cross. Both serve good food have reasonable inside seating and beer gardens. Other than those, you are into St. Agnes and Porthtowan.
The property is down some narrow country lanes, a little off the beaten track but there is plenty of parking.
We all enjoyed our holiday and would happily rebook.
