August 2018
We booked this for 3 nights with friends from the USA and our two dogs. We love this location having got to know it well from the past - two beautiful beaches (dog friendly) and a short but lovely walk between the two across the low cliffs.
To give a little more to the price guide above - we paid £1400 for 3 nights midweek in August (Tue to Thurs), we weren’t holding back for this short break and were looking for a decent quality and good standard of property.
Inside: it was nice, pleasant and on the while clean - save for the stuff left in the dishwasher (not a great sign). It wasn’t special but it was to a good standard and comfortable and practical for our purposes.
Outside however, was a total disappointment. I knew from a previous guest comment on Sykes Cottages that there was no bbq - (it’s August)! , so we took ours with us, as we planned to sit out and eat out. On arrival, and to our disappointment we found the entrance and side patio filthy and covered in overgrown weeds that had been likely growing all summer (some of them were two foot tall! There was an abandoned body-board damp and covered in sand by the entrance and beer bottles in the another two foot weed infested flower border. The furniture was old decrepit, dirty and one of the chairs was broken, it had seen better days long ago.
This was not really what we expected at this price and with a bit of TLC and attention to guest experience this could have been a delightful area to sit and enjoy at the end of a good day out.
Clearly the owners have not listened to previous comments about the Dog security - we guessed as much and so took a piece of expanding garden trellis with us - the dogs are pretty safe there but still there are cars coming in and out of the gated complex. And it’s seems the owners do not really care enough about the guest experience (as claimed in a previous post response). Having booked this on behalf of our US guests we were a little embarrassed and shared their disappointment too.
Advice for outside: clean it up, make it attractive, make it comfortable (chair cushions?), provide safety / security for dogs - and do what you say on the tin, at £470 per night there has to be some expectations.
We love Treyarnon and Constantine and will continue to return - but not to Neptune without reassurance that things are better. It seemed to be a greedy deal in the owners favour or perhaps they have the wrong agents and cleaners, either way the owners have the responsibility.
Ps. Someone did come to clear the weeds while we were out on our last day - all a bit late then.
I certainly hope the owners make some improvements.
