February 2016
Stayed here mid January 2016 with wife, daughter and my mother. This was my second time here. Previous stay was almost 3 years previous. Cottage hasn't changed. It's still a lovely, comfortable relaxing location.
Location is superb. This time (during winter) we didn't see as much activity on the farm. That may have been due to our travelling away early and returning late. Lovely to see the animals - reindeer this time and the piglets.
I won't go into details on the accommodation as I covered it pretty well last time. The rooms are warm and comfortable. The log fire in the lounge room was put to good use. As the front door opens into the room, even with the draft stopper, the room needed the fire to get it warm. The initial supply of kindling lasted the full week but the logs went in a couple of days. The logs are not seasoned so they leaked resin on the hearth. Best to keep them in the log basket with the newspaper and kindling. The logs are an easy purchase from petrol station in Knutsford or from a larger supermarket - Tesco in Northwich for example.
The cottage is on the flight part to / from Manchester airport. We did hear planes in the morning, but this wasn't a problem for us. Time to get up anyway.
Watch out in winter on cold mornings. The flagstones leading to the front door were icy. There was salt in the little shed which was good. A few handfuls were thrown around to help with this.
This is a good location to spend a week in Cheshire; within striking distance of Liverpool, Anthony Gormley statues at Crosby Beach, the shopping at Chester, Manchester and the tranquility of the wonderful Peak District. Not far from the M6 you can cover a lot of ground from here ... or you can sit and enjoy the farm.
