Alnwick House description

Holiday home
Alnwick House is a Grade II listed, stone-built, end-terrace townhouse, in the centre of Alnwick and can sleep six people. The cottage is set over three floors and has a second floor double bedroom, a twin bedroom, a ground floor adult bunks room with an en-suite basin and WC, a second floor bathroom, a first floor basin and WC, a first floor kitchen and dining area, a ground floor sitting room with an electric fire and a basement games room. Outside there is roadside parking in roads just a short stroll from the cottage, lockable bike storage and a shared patio. Alnwick House is a wonderful holiday base.

Area
This part of Northumberland is famous for its unspoilt beauty, and is widely recognised as having some of the most picturesque countryside in the whole of England. The area offers a wonderful combination of coastline and countryside, having long sandy beaches and the Cheviot Hills complementing each other perfectly. There are also a great number of well-preserved and spectacular medieval castles and stately homes in the area, including the fantastic Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland and often referred to as "The Windsor of the North". Alnwick itself was once a prosperous medieval market town, being only a day's ride from Berwick-upon-Tweed in the north and Newcastle upon Tyne in the south. It is still a charming maze of cobbled streets and narrow alleys, whilst its fine stone buildings now house a range of specialist shops and family-run businesses. Visitors can still enjoy the atmosphere of Alnwick as it may have been in Medieval times in the town's recently refurbished Market Place, which is also the centre for local events, including Alnwick Fair and the International Music Festival.

Region
Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian's Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.

When you travel to Northumberland in March, you take the weather as you find it and we had a mixed bag. But one of the things which made our holiday, despite the mixed weather, was the house. It is comfortable, well organised and HUGE. Parking is on street, but the road opposite offered plenty of free parking overnight. Turn down the alley at the side of the house and in a few short strides you are in the town centre and the pubs are great and largely dog friendly.

The house needs a really deep clean, don’t know if you arrange the cleaners or the owners but it’s in dire need of a good scrub.. A shame as it has all you could wish for.

Lovely house, well equipped kitchen (not that we used most of it), comfortable furniture, very central & convenient position in town, parking was no problem, short walk to variety of eateries.. Who wouldn’t enjoy Northumberland? So much to see, to visit, to be energised or relaxed. Hope wel’ll be back, would definitely recommend.

Unusual layout with kitchen upstairs.. Ideal location very near town centre. Two cellar based games rooms were a real hit with the grandchildren, as was the Xbox. Alnwick is a good central location for beaches, golf courses and historic venues. Dropped the rating slightly for comfort because of personal knee problems and had some difficulty with the stairs. Parking near to the house was a bit of a lottery. We were pleasantly satisfied with all other aspects of the house and would consider returning at some time in the future.

Alnwick House provides a great base for families to explore the interesting town of Alnwick, as well the rest of the Northumberland coast.. The house is spacious and well equipped. Teenagers will love the games room in the basement and older vistors the choice of two comfortable lounges. Recommended.

It's a big property and I had thought there were two showers, the cooker was very hard to use and kept going off and the grill only worked on one side.. I was clean but could f been cleaner under sofa etc

It was in a great location, a 2min walk into town and about a 10 - 15min walk to the castle. I loved that the house had a games room and Xbox which kept my teenage son entertained! The holiday overall was brilliant!

The property was a 'home from home'. Thought the bottle of wine on arrival was a lovely touch.
