Great cottage, lovely owner, ideally placed for exploring the Highlands, whether on foot or by car

Great holiday.. Cottage perfect and good location

July 2020
We loved Alma Cottage.. Perfect location for visiting so many places and, of course, for the West Highland Way, other walks and not far from Loch Lomond. The Real Food Cafe is excellent for fish and chips. There's a grocery shop just across the road. House looked beautiful - very well decorated and equipped - and was very clean. Lovely to have a separate dining room. Bathroom is downstairs but that was fine. We were concerned booking that it might be noisy next to the road. You could hear the road, obviously and there is traffic at night but it didn't bother any of us at all. It certainly didn't affect our sleeping. Absolutely loved it. Would go back again tomorrow.

A cottage full of wonderful facilities - with extras like milk in fridge plus bed & treats for dogs.. Even magnetic torches on light switches if needed during the night. Sykes tend to tell you to bring loads of things eg oven gloves, but this cottage had taken care to provide everything. Boiler was a problem but the owners acted promptly to get it fixed. They carefully tell you of things to note, and the only slightly inconvenient aspect in our opinion is that the bathroom is downstairs.

We stayed her for 10 nights in Feb 2020 - arriving with Storm Ciara and leaving with Storm Dennis.. Although the weather was not the best we still had a lovely stay. The cottage is warm, clean and comfortable. We had a bit of a problem with the boiler (hot water not working) but is was sorted by the owner quickly. As previous reviewers have commented there is quite a bit of road noise (HGVs pass within a few feet) but surprisingly it didn't keep us awake at night. The kitchen, as mentioned, is small but manageable for 2 (wouldn't like to have had more people there!). There is a little shop over the road and a pub within a short walk which serves good food. Be careful if you park your car at the back of the property as you enter the road on a blind bend

The cottage was very clean, comfortable and had a really well equipped kitchen which is rare in a holiday property.. The efficient boiler meant we had lovely hot showers every day. The beds were very comfortable. The cottage is ideally placed on the West Highland Way - we were able to venture out on several beautiful walks from our doorstep. Great local shop and very handy pub with friendly staff and good food. In summary, we would love to stay again.

September 2019
The owners have done a great job of renovating Alma Cottage and it was very cosy and comfortable.. Lovely to have a king size bed. It’s a great position for exploring and useful to have facilities on the doorstep. Shame about the road noise but they have done all they can to prevent noise intrusion in the house and we were warned about it beforehand The kitchen is very well equipped just a shame it’s not a bit bigger. We only heated things up and made picnics but we would have struggled to do much more and it must be difficult for 4. No idea how it worked with 6! Also the fridge is too small and the thermostat quite erratic. The dining room would have made a great kitchen/ diner but we realise when they did the conversation that was used as a bedroom. A lovely touch to leave extras for the dogs. They enjoyed their treats ! It’s a shame part of the garden can’t be enclosed. It would have been lovely for our dogs to potter around off lead.

Location was perfect for us.. Everything was central to the cottage and within easy walking distance. The Cottage sits at the start of a row of other cottages available for holiday rental so is perfect for larger family holidays to all be beside each other but with own privacy.

Fabulous location for touring and or walking.. Good eateries on the doorstep and great transport links.

August 2019
The accommodation was beautiful with serene surroundings.. Credit to the owners. The only drawback is the presence of a bathroom downstairs and that too in front of the kitchen
Mr A Viswanathan, August 2019
August 2019
The cottage is beautifully renovated and despite being next to the A82 is totally quiet inside.. It is on the West Highland Way and folk trek past on their journey. We used it as a base for the walk and I drove the walkers to their start points and picked them up at the end. Of their day. All loved the fact they’d a lovely very comfortable cottage , bath , bed and shower to come back to. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others

The cottage is warm and comfortable.. The location is really amazing for walkers, with proximity to the West Highland Way, and very well equipped stores and cafes. Brilliant location with generous parking and outside eating areas. Would love to return.

Alma cottage surpassed our expectations.. It was in a perfect location, right on the West Highland Way with shops within easy walking distance and two train stations. We didn’t bring our car on holiday, and we didn’t miss having it! A wonderful week! Thank you!

Conversion of this old building has been excellently done, kitchen especially.. Although beside main road, traffic noise hardly noticeable indoors. Tyndrum very well placed for exploring area, both its hills/mountains nearby and daytrips further afield.

Fantastic little cottage.. Lovely inside and out, excellently stocked kitchen and lovely decor throughout. Great private parking and plenty local shops etc within 2 minutes walk. Views around the cottage are stunning. Perfect location, lovely drive for anyone wanting to take on Ben Nevis but not stay in Fort William. Would definitely recommend and would revisit.

Cosy and comfortable cottage

December 2018
Alma cottage was great it was left clean and tidy and provided a wonderful home to return to after a full day in the hills.. The sofas and bed were very comfortable the central heating kept us nice and toasty. The appliances in the kitchen were first rate and worked well. Wifi was reliable and helped us keep in touch with the outside world. At the time of booking Alma cottage was advertised for 6 people I understand now the downstairs bedroom is being converted into a dedicated dining room and the cottage will go back to 4 people. This is a very good decision as cottage did not feel large for the two of us. Do not be put off by the proximity to the main road we had full road works going on during our stay (which we were informed about) and it barely disturbed. I have paid a lot more for a lot less Alma cottage was very good value and we would definitely book again.

Had a bit of a plumbing issue.. Owner could not have been more helpful. A lovely wee cosy cottage. May well return as I have a few unconquered Munro’s in the area.

This is a lovely cottage, restored tastefully and with a lot of attention to detail.. Felt at home immediately. The ventilation system allows you to keep windows closed at night, thus keeping the midges out. The only concern is that the fence panels at the back restrict visibility when driving out onto the main road, where vehicles approach at high speed from both sides, but there is the option of parking across the road near the village shop. Along the same lines, a gate would be helpful to prevent small children or pets from getting out onto the road.

Alma Cottage is a delightful, well equipped and comfortable property that fully met our requirements.. There is very little to comment upon as the description given very accurately describes the property. This includes the few negatives, including the proximity to a busy road, which can be very busy but very quiet in the evenings, and the house appears to be well insulated against both the cold and the noise outside. The car parking, as described, is a little awkward for two vehicles parked along side each other. There is enough room to park but manoeuvring in and out of the parking area can be awkward. One vehicle would not have a problem. There is no 'dining area' only a low, drop leaf table in the lounge. It could be remedied with a full height folding table and stackable stools. However this would not stop me renting the cottage again. The lounge chairs and sofas are very comfortable but would benefit from the addition of supportive 'scatter" cushions ! We were a party of 4 adults who managed to 'choreograph' using the bathroom without much difficultly. However, for a party of 6 the single bathroom facility in the property might prove a challenge ! The property is extremely well placed for exploring the area; walking sections of the West Highland Way, which passes the front door; and accessing this part of Argyll and beyond. The village itself is very well catered for with Post Office, grocery shops, 'petrol' station, train services, cafe, pub and restaurant and good quality gift shops all within close walking proximity. A lovely property, thoughtfully renovated to a very high standard. It was a delight to stay here.

I stayed at Alma Cottage for a week whilst working in the area.. The cottage was very clean, well equipped and comfortable. It has a good and reliable WIFI service. It is conveniently located with shops across the road. and eating places within easy walking distance. There is good off road parking at the rear of the property. The owners have made a photographic story book of their renovation of the cottage which was interesting to look through, and reveals the hard work that has gone into preparing the cottage for rental.

Superb cottage- it is really cared for, clean, well equipped and plenty of room.. It’s right on the west highland way - you can walk to two railway stations so you could just park up and forget your car and plenty of choice to eat out between two cafes and an inn. You can even look for gold in the river.

Cottage was fabulous and to a very high standard, very comfortable and loved being there.. The parking was also really great with ample opportunities to purchase food, goods and meals very close by. Hope to be back one day!

March 2018
We had a pleasant holiday in Alma Cottage.. It is a cosy little place. As pointed out by previous tenants, there is no dining table and the kitchen is relatively small (albeit modern and well equipped). I guess that the dining room was sacrificed for the sake of an extra bedroom. As such, the cottage is well suited for people who like to dine out in the evening (the local Real Food Cafe is recommended), but it is less than ideal for people who prefer home-cooked meals. We belong in the latter category, but we managed, and at the end of the day, we were happy to have the extra bedroom. The cottage is right next to the A82/A85; however, due to its thick walls, the cottage is well insulated against traffic noise, and it did not bother us. The cottage is also right next to the West Highland Way. If you have a dog, then it needs to be on a lead whenever it is let out as the garden is not fenced off. Other than the aforementioned minor issues, we enjoyed our time at Alma Cottage.

March 2018
This cottage does not offer a dining table to sit and eat at, which I was disappointed at!
Ms Pickering
February 2018
Whilst the listing was accurate (by omission) for the cottage, we were surprised to discover there was no table that could be used to sit at and eat.. That meant that all meals had to be eaten whilst sat on the sofa, which is not something we do. The cottage has sleeping for six people and this would have been a challenge. Fortunately there were only two of us, so we got by, but it was disappointing not to be able to sit down and eat properly after a long day on the hill. This is the reason we would be very unlikely to book the cottage again.

October 2017
The Alma Cottage was in the right location for our holiday as we like to tour around the west coast of Scotland When we arrived, we found there was tea, coffee, sugar & milk to make a hot drink (even a packet of biscuits! !!) We found the cottage very clean, warm and cosy, a real home from home. Even though it is situated next to a busy road, the double glazing and excellent soundproofing meant there was no traffic noise at all, even during the night The bed was very comfortable and we had a good nights sleep every night The views from the cottage are very nice and must look even better when covered in snow I would definitely recommend the Alma Cottage to anyone wanting a holiday in this area

Only that if you have a lot of luggage there are no wardrobes to put your clothes in.. Just a clothes rack so not much room. Lovely warm cottage in a great location. Very comfortable and cosy.

August 2016
Such a fantastic cottage close to all the shops ,restaurants, walks and pubs you could ask for.. The only problem we experienced was the close ness to the road for a dog/child friendly cottage a fence on rear of property would have been great so rear door could be opened with no fear of dog escape. Aside from that great place in stunning area.
Mr Eansworth, August 2016
August 2016
When the cottage is at capacity, 6 adults staying, one toilet is not enough.. The cistern takes a long time to fill too. I don't know that much could be done about that, the stay was very much enjoyed. The cottage immaculate and very well suited to social gathering, from the layout of the lounge to the garden tables. The holidaymakers had a very lovely break. Thanks to Alma Cottage and those who keep her.
