Once you’ve braved the stairs to reach Airwaves (all five floors), you’re justly rewarded. The flat is small, but it’s been put together wonderfully, with every inch of space used, and used well. The furniture skews vintage, and combined with the pared-back aesthetic, the whole flat feels like a haven, away from the hectic streets below. And those streets can get busy. Friedrichshain has one of the best art and music scenes in Europe, and Airwaves is as good a place as any from which to explore.
Home truths: *The flat's on the top floor and there's not lift – get ready for a lot of stairs
*A cat usually lives here, and while it'll be away during your stay, people with allergies might want to take note
*The kitchen's very cute, but it doesn't have an oven
*There's no TV in the flat – you'll have to entertain yourself
*There are a lot of bars in the area, and it can get lively
