Good location with lots to see within a few miles

The cottage is in a good area for exploring the Dales.. It had all the facilities we needed and the dishwasher was a Godsend. Our dog loves the garden. The only downside was there were a few gangly spiders up near the ceiling in the bedroom. I would recommend this cottage for a perfect stay and very close to both Harrogate and Ripley.

Good basic accommodation but with quite a lot of downsides. Air extractor in the bathroom was very noisy (it sounded like it was driven by an old chain)! No welcome pack not even a pint of milk, severe lack of pots and pans (no pans to put pizzas on etc). No curtains or blinds in the kitchen, inside door or outside door so if you came downstairs in the night to use the toilet people could see you (luckily it was only sheep overlooking the windows and doors). Couldn't get the WiFi to work , there was a code left on a scrap of old envelope but wouldn't connect. The handrail that came down the stairs was too short and didn't lead down to the bottom step (bottom step was a different size to all the rest, I nearly fell down a couple of times. There was no real fire only an electric one which was a big disappointment. No Christmas decorations, we stayed from 14th to 17th December. There was a gale blowing under the front door, could have done with a curtain there. No footpaths to walk the dog. Dressing room upstairs should be used as an onsuite bathroom. On the positive side the back of the cottage overlooked a field of sheep and was nice that it was located in a quiet place.

Landlord was extra helpful when I turned up with a van too big to fit in the car parking space..

Think the cottage would benefit from a information sheet,to help with the hot water and rubbish disposal.. Other than that no problem.

The Cottage was in a quiet tranquil setting with fields in front and to the rear, lots of lambs in the field.. Lots of activities in the area from historic cities / towns. National Trust properties. Thorp Perrow Aboretum a hidden gem not to be missed!!!!! driveway entrance is not the easiest to negotiate but OK with care.

Local POI would be ok ie distance to shops/stores .. Compilation of local walks .

We thoroughly enjoyed our break at the cottage.. The cottage was lovely, extremely well presented, spotless everywhere and very comfortable. Our dog loved his first holiday and settled very well in strange surroundings. Must just add the road outside was frightening when taking our dog out in the morning, the speed of traffic was so fast especially on the bends way beyond any speed limit for a B road.

We were very happy with the cottage, lovely and clean and homely.. Close to many places of interest, really enjoyed our stay.

No issues with the cottage.. The only downside was the main road in front of the cottage. Speed limit is 50/60mph and the road is quite busy. Access to the cottage is on a blind bend so quite a concern with the speed of the traffic.

We thought this was a well-appointed cottage very convenient to many places of interest.. It was clean, comfortable and well equipped and we had a very pleasant stay. I was however surprised that there was no information/welcome pack. Considering that the cottage has no WiFi and rather poor network coverage I think it was particularly important to provide this. The cooker has an induction hob which I have only come across once before and they are not easy to operate if you are not familiar with them. We were actually locked out of it half way through cooking a meal and it took a while to locate a user manual. Also we managed to find a footpath over the fields to Ripley village and the nearest pub using our GPS (or you can take the permissive path via Whipley Bank Lane on the opposite side of the road), but it might have been helpful to have this sort of useful local info provided.

Comfortable cottage.. Disappointed there was no hot water on arrival. Large bathroom with good shower. Bathroom could be improved greatly by the addition of a shelf (there is plenty of space for one). Have been staying in cottages for many years and this is the first one which didn't provide a welcome tray or a cottage information pack ~ just basic info would have been useful. There are no blinds, nets or curtains on the kitchen window and outside door! You therefore have no privacy when going to the bathroom at night. There is a secure back garden which makes it an ideal dog friendly cottage though and we would stay again.

The cottage was quite shabby and in need of a coat of paint.. Although traffic noise was mentioned in your literature we could not leave the bedroom window open as traffic was passing all through the night this we did not expect. Parking was quite restricted and anyone with a large car e.g. an estate would find it very difficult to maneuver into the allocated space. No blinds or curtains on the kitchen window and outside door, therefore no privacy when you entered the toilet and shower room which was situated downstairs and you had to pass the back door during the night. We have always found the cottages we have rented from Sykes often exceeded our expectations, but we could not recommend this one.

No cleaning or supply of towels bedding etc for 2nd week.. No discussions or written agreement / statement was given to cover this situation when booking and something you do not want to worry about when renting for two weeks. Sorry a situation that Sykes need to sort.

The cottage would have been great except for the need for coat hooks to allow for wet coats to be hung up to dry, had to hang over an open door, also no cottage information thus could not retune TV to allow us to get the masters on BBC 2 or many other stations..

Good basic accommodation with all the facilities required, cosy and comfortable and good location for sightseeing and local walks.. Owner particularly helpful during recent severe weather difficulties of Feb 2018. Very enjoyable stay all round.

Some coat hooks to hang outdoor clothes and extra shelves in bathroom.. Wi-Fi would be a good addition for local planning.

Just had a pleasant stay at Scarah Bank Cottage. Photographs show property exactly as it is. Photograph is of number 7 NOT number 6 as a previous reviewer had incorrectly stated. Cottage was very well equipped, kitchen even had a slow cooker. Plenty of coal in the coal bunker and full bag of kindling, along with several newspapers, so no problems in having a fire. Very comfortable bed and spotless bedding. Bedroom really was a lovely, light, sunny room. Dressing room could certainly be used as another bedroom which I am very surprised it isnt as property is big enough for 3 people. Shower worked perfectly and bathroom in excellent order. Wall mounted electric heaters heated property to a lovely temperature. Only room that was uncomfortably cold was the kitchen as we couldnt get the radiator to work, but we managed fine. Nice back garden, all secure which was great for our little dog. Yes the cottage is situated on a busy road and traffic noise can be heard.

Great location with loads of different places to visit and walk the dog nearby. The house was perfect, everything you need for a getaway. A lovely house, lovely holiday.

The shower is broken and doesn't work properly. Only 1 bucket of coal left for us no kindling. TV aerial defective ie, broken wires, spasmodic reception. As we had no coal we had no heating in the kitchen, bathroom or bedroom. The open fire heats the radiators in these rooms. There are only 2 small oil filled electric heaters to keep the whole house warm. We had snow, rain, high winds and the temperature dropped to minus 2 so we were exceptionally cold. We found the fridge smelly and the kitchen bin lid was filthy when we arrived. The bin for the ashes was full to the brim. Couldn`t get an answer from the owner when we rang.

The property has tasteful decor with good quality furnishings, a comfy bed and very homely. The off road parking was very useful and a lovely enclosed garden was great for our dog.

Very comfortable accommodations in Yorkshire in an ideal setting. Near Ripley with its charming hotel and pub as well as very close to Harrogate. Many beautiful castles, abbeys, and stately homes within an hours drive and the countryside is spectacular. The house itself is very well equipped, comfortable, with a nice modern kitchen. Bathroom is fine but the shower needs some work.

Excellent! Clean, well equipped and spectacular views. Good, safe off-road parking was a bonus. Very pleasant neighbours. We booked this cottage for the Great Yorkshire Show. Travel each day was relatively easy and the cottage was a great sanctuary to return to each evening.

Nice cottage, lovely patio at the back, everything you need, but it is on a very busy B road so quite noisy from the front bedroom. Nowhere to walk our little old dog easily, to get in the car & drive somewhere defeats the purpose of the walk especially in the evening. Our info described a shop, pub & river walk 5 mins. WE presumed to walk, (in which direction)? but its 5 mins by car as its 1.5 miles away, we discovered it 4 days into our holiday.

A lovely cottage in a perfect setting, a perfect base for exploring this beautiful area. Excellent bus service from Ripley to Ripon, Harrogate and Leeds.

Nice spotlessly clean holiday cottage, well located for touring the area. The kitchen is well equipped as is the lounge and bedroom. Excellent parking facilities. Friendly/helpful neighbours. A very good walk for the dog just opposite the cottage around the Ripley Castle Estate.

Never been to the Yorkshire Dales. Was excellent. Saw some lovely places, villages and scenery. Will certainly keep this on blackboard for return visit. We had a great time!
