Self-Catering Reviews

Mr Moore
July 2020
This is a nice house.. It appeared to be very clean and well kept. All the facilities that you would expect to find were there. Two toilets, one upstairs, one downstairs was useful. Behind the house is an area of chipped slate for private parking. A corner of this area is fenced off to provide the private outdoor seating space. We enjoyed our stay.

Cottage nicely located in village, close to amenities.. Despite being on a main road, noise disturbance was minimal.

January 2020
Very comfortable and an ideal location for the walking sorts.. Spacious kitchen and very fair amenities, the heating was superb and the shower very good. Rooms very good, however smaller 3rd bedroom with bunk beds not really ideally suited for two grown adults, 6ft plus! Remember this property is advertised as for 6 adults - I would rather rather say 4 adults and two children. With that said we still managed and it wasn’t a real issue. Parking good and off road. Key arrangement excellent. TV excellent. Wi fi excellent. Clean towels supplied and spotless accommodation. One main bathroom however there was also a downstairs loo. All in all a very fair price for a great property and would more than be happy to recommend this cottage to friends and family. Disliked  · 3rd bedroom - bunk beds. But as said is still manageable so not really a dislike more than an observation.

This is a very tidy well equipped cottage virtually in the centre of the village. The house is warm & cosy and the beds are comfortable. The only drawback is it says sleeps 6. I would suggest that this would be ok for 4 adults & 2 children, given one of the rooms has bunk beds and only one bathroom, it does not suit 6 adults. The kitchen is also a little small for 6 adults to eat together.

Wonderful facilities, spotless and cozy..

November 2019
The cottage was cosy and warm and generally clean the only thing I noticed and another adult in our group also commented on was the shower.. It had mould which could easily have been cleaned off with a spray of bleach. Had I stayed longer I would have done it myself. The shower curtain was the same. Other than that I would highly recommend it.

We found this a very comfortable property.. The kitchen was well equipped and fitted out with plenty of room for mealtimes. The tv was good as was the Wi-Fi and cell phone reception. The lounge had 2 large comfotable sofas and the beds were also comfortable.Plenty of towels too. The off road parking at the rear was easily accessible and spacious. The location in the heart of Coniston was ideal for us as all shops, pubs and cafes were only a 5 minute walk away. Also Coniston is a great location for exploring the rest of the Lake District. All in all a very pleasant and happy holiday.

Lovely location but the accom was rather tired looking seriously needs updating for the price they charge and to say its for 6 adults is a definite stretch 4 maximum apart from that like i said nice location but not worth the price at all .. .........

Also has off road parking at the rear. A repeat visit is planned.

We were well informed about the property before our visit .. The cottage was clean and comfortable. The property is well situated for local amenities and central for touring around the Lake District.

Have stayed at this cottage 6 times now so obviously we like it.. New smart TV was a bonus as weather wasn't too kind. Unfortunately bed wasn't very comfortable - kept rolling into middle - and we're certainly not fatties. Also bathroom heater was still broken - not a major problem but the way the wind was it was a bit draughty in there and could have used some heat. In general we had another good stay though

February 2019
When we got to the Cottage they had storage heaters but they only got turned on when we were there, so it was very cold, we did find 2 electric heaters later that evening and an oil heater (which we had been told about).. The owner did say that 2 of the radiators where not working which isn't nice when the temperatures dropped to -4. The cottage was clean and comfortable. We were told that some fire materials would be available for our first coal fire but when we got there, we had nothing so had to go out and get some which was disappointing because again, it was so cold and having to go back out. Had the storage heaters been put on the night before ready to emit heat for when we arrived the experience would have been a lot more enjoyable from the start

Great house.. Couple of minor issues with heater not working in bathroom but we were made aware before we went. Kitchen was fab with everything we could and some! New sofas are comfy. (You should update the pictures on the listing) Good sized property.

The DVD player doesn’t work as there is no scart connection on the Tv ( discovered when we settled down to watch a film we had brought with us especially) .. The central heating system seems pretty archaic with no adjustment and could definitely do with an upgrade ( heats in early morning when your going out and cools down in the evening when you want it to provide heat . No where really to air and dry wet clothes comfortably ( needed walking in the autumn lakes weather) this is not helped by the above mentioned central heating .

This was my first visit to the Lake District, having travelled the world, and most of the U.. K. In my 84years. I found the visit amazing, and wonder why I have been so slow in my travels into roaming Cumbria before. I found Barrowdale so beautiful in its bleakness and my dog was in her element.
Mr Hill

The only issue with the cottage is the appalling hot water pressure.. The water comes out of the taps in a trickle making washing up great fun and taking a bath impossible.

We were disappointed that we were not allowed to leave our pet in the property unattended and as a consequence decided against taking her with us.. Our dog is used to being left and when on holiday stays in her crate when we go out. it should be obvious that there are times when you are unable to take a pet out with you. ? pet friendly!!
Mrs Bourne, November 2016
September 2016
It met expectations, but in the brochure it appeared that the garden was attached to the house.. The size and proximity of the garden was disappointing. However, the cottage was very comfortable, very well equipped and good value for money.

The best thing was that we got lucky with beautiful sunny weather throughout. The cottage was very sweet and was perfect for four of us. The location was ideal, close to the shops, petrol station, nice walks and Coniston Water. Although located close to the town, the place was nice and quiet. The owner has thought of most needs for the guests to stay in the cottage. Fully equipped kitchen, wi-fi and tv - dvd player were helpful. The beds were comfortable and we had a very nice sleep everyday.

The was a great property within easy walking distance to the centre of the village, and the takeaway / chip shop on the corner for rainy nights. The rooms were well furnished comfortable with plenty of built in storage in the bedrooms. There was a large area to park behind the houses but getting back onto the road from between the buildings was quite tight with a blindspot to the main road and the only real downside to the stay.

Nice accommodation to stay in, plenty of amenities and the views were outstanding! The Lake District is untouched and out of this world. The Sun Hotel does spectacular food. It's just lovely being up in the mountains/ hills away from it all, just yourselves, the wildlife, views and the sound of the waterfalls gushing. Absolutely beautiful place and we'll back for another holiday!

We enjoyed our stay at Low House. The cottage was clean with a good amount of space. One thing that could improve things would be to provide a travel cot and highchair, we had to take ours and it was a squeeze in the car. I think this would put me off booking somewhere that doesn't provide these in future.
